I am sorry if my question sounds stupid. After not being online for more than one year, I installed the newest client - surprise, it worked right away. However... how can I log out without closing the client? I went through all menues, but couldn't find a log-off button. In case I want to log out temporarily, I don't want to close and restart the client from scratch. How can I get offline? Thanks a lot for your hints. Horst Wunderle

there's an away button where you can set yourself as not available...
...but I don't think there's any way to log out without closing.

Confirming... can't be done. I have absolutely no idea why, but that is how it is.

Yeah.. it prevents those of us with alts from being able to easily switch. I happen to use my poor alt as a guinea pig and it'd make life so much easier for me.
Maybe that's why.. imagine how much faster griefers can swap to alts if they didn't have the program shut down.

Can't answer the first question, but for Raudf's predictiment, right click on the second life icon to select properties, and add -multiple at the end of the command line. You can log in multiple sessions, making it easier to alt-test something you make or whatever.

you also can't relog from the viewer window when you get various stealth disconnects (like red map syndrome) which is higly annoying... someone with more skill really should add those features.

I was running into the kitchen laptop and back to use my alt for testing stuff, while good excersize it was a big pain. Thanks again for the clue!

I do the -multiple thing sometimes when I'm testing stuff I'm building (or giving money from one alt to another, etc.).
My computer's doing good to run one instance of SL reasonably well, but two windows open really taxes it. I've generally found that minimizing the first instance will slow down processor requirements to almost idle after a bit (once everything has rezzed) so that the second session is reasonably responsive.
Again, all that depends on your computer/memory/processor/graphics card combo.
/me digs out that old Dell XPS catalog and starts droolin' again.

If you leave your alt minimized while you build or something, remember LL will log you out after 30 minutes idle. Turn off the AFK test to prevent this ... ie. uncheck 'Client/Character/Tests/AFK test'. (may not have that ezakly right).
It used to be that LL's client would STILL log you out after 30 minutes idle ... if you have that problem, one way around it is to use Nicholaz's client.

Not until I either get a new comp or serious upgrade. Of course it might help if I quit trying to run photoshop with SL

Nika: I do run Nic's client. So much nicer. Raudf: That's usually my downfall, two SL clients and Photoshop all running at once (1G RAM, single core processor, 128MB video memory). An' I generally don't run my alt for too long, generally just a test fit, or a test buy, or a test transfer, or jus' to get my weekly allowance.

Nic's client helps, but there some weirdness when closing an IM window... all the im's past it are ALSO closed

Tell more about this client and what it can do, and why it is better, I am honestly interested.
