My gf keeps finding herself at what she describes as the bottom of the ocean. It happens randomly and she is unable to fly or get out. Then suddenly, she is back and all is ok. It mainly seems to happen when she tries to sit or tp. Would be grateful for any help.

What version of SL is she running? What video card? This used to happen to me a lot a few years ago, but I was also using a much older video card as well.

also, on my avatar online hud, she sometimes appears as "database timeout" and is not showing as being online, although she is.

What does "connection is good" mean? What kind of connection does she have? Cable, DSL, wireless, dial-up?

This happens to me occasionally in my new loft. It's a busier sim, many more prims than my island.....so I think it's due in part to lag. I have a perfect cable connection 95% of the time.....and my video card is also newer and runs SL beautifully.

It sounds like she's experiencing a relatively common glitch.......it's happened to me randomly in the 3 years I've been in SL. It could also be some hiccups on the server side of things......especially on weekends when SL tends to be a lot busier. I run in the regular viewer also.....but this little glitch has happened in other viewers I've used......

Wireless.....as good as the connection may be....does indeed have a tendency to be unpredictable with SL.....I wouldn't recommend it, but if it's stable most of the time then probably this little annoyance will resolve itself over time. ;)

"the bottom of the ocean" is lifely to be 0,0,0, or 10,10,10 of the sim she is Tp'in in. It's a common problem.

When you Tp you normally dont see it as it's covered by the "TP" screen, but if for some reason it takes longer or there is a network/database issue, you will momentarily see yourself there (and sometimes with you legs painfully benty back!)

0,0,0 and 10,10,10 reference is also handy for people who have parcels that cover that ares - you will often find all sorts of "lost" items down there - if you are wondering where your prims went, take a look!

sounds like she's being orbed somewhat. happens to me on occasion, like when i attempt to sit on a scripted object. at first i will be sent for a few seconds+ to a border area of the sim, way underwater or underground, and often a corner of all four connecting sims. while i don't know if this is the problem she's having, i also can't tell you how to solve or eliminate it, though, in the past, it has been suggested that it can be caused by having too many heavily scripted items attached, including HUDs.

(plus what Milla and Gomez said whilst i was pecking away...)

I think what is happening is she is going to the 0,0,0 coordinates of the sim which is underwater. Since she is the only person seeing this problem it might be the SL client on her computer having trouble talking to the SL server because of the wireless connection or her connection to the internet. I would try rebooting the modem and router and then try switching from wireless to wired.

Now that I think about it, I was also wireless at the time that this happened to me. Wireless SL is of course possible but like the others have said, your gf will experience a few more glitches. What happens if she hard-wires into her router/modem?

I had that problem a few months ago, for about a weekend. I had read about it before it happened to me, so I wasn't totally freaked out, but I was annoyed. Sometimes there would be other people with me!! And occasionally I'd be somewhere and folks would disappear and re-appear. It was happening to me any time I sat on or stood up from a pose ball. I was playing The Kaaos Effect on Orange Island and it drove me nuts.

The problem started out of the blue and then it ended out of the blue. Re-logging didn't seem to help, and the fact that I was seeing other people (sometimes doing less than PG things!) at 0, 0, 0 suggested to me it wasn't something that was happening due to my machine alone.

I hope it will clear up for your GF, too!

NO! Really?! Damn. I tried everything (I thought). Happily it hasn't happened in months, but I'll remember this if it happens again.
