that number in the knowledgebase isn't a toll-free (0800) UK number at all, so i can understand your confusion. it got me at first too. the dialling code should read like this (00
![]() also bear in mind that calls to the United States (from a BT line) are three pence cheaper per minute (peak) than calls to Belgium, so you might as well just ring San Francisco. and Linden Lab! please change this number .. (00) 800 722 00010 (UK) .. to read ..+8 007 220 0010 (Belgium) .. or ..(00 we can work out what the + means thanks, and the difference is that you won't get lots of complaints when people get charged 18p per minute for a call they thought was free. given the support queue's standard ten minute waiting time, that is not a cheap call (£1.80UKP or $3.58USD)!!![]() _____________________

It would explain why barred on the OPs mobile which sounds like international calls aren't enabled. The number listed should say Europe, not UK, and inform what country you would be calling for cost purposes. _____________________

Excellent answer. Many thanks.
I'm can actually use Skype, with Skype Out as well, which I understands lets me use toll free numbers in the US, from the UK. I'm glad I didn't get through if its Belgium. I' sure that the UK OffCom would be unhappy about the info on the web site. BV |

i agree with you both. when i saw this number:
(00) 800 722 00010 (UK) i immediately thought they'd got the format wrong because no UK number begins with two zeroes. so i did this to it: (0800) 722 00010 and now it looks like a UK toll-free number. clearly we jumped to the same conclusion and many others will too. .. only when i noticed the superfluous zero (0800 numbers are followed by seven, not eight digits) did it occur to me this might be an international number. They really need to fix that. Urgently. _____________________

00800 is the UK dialling code for UIFN calls ("Universal International Free Number"
![]() More info on UIFN here: http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/universalnumbers/uifn/#What Calls to 13-digit numbers starting with 00800 should be free from the UK (from BT landlines, at least!) |

0800 numbers are followed by seven, not eight digits umm .. AA Breakdown are 0800 887 766 .. six digits .... which I hasten to add .. if dialled from a mobile also gets an error. Correct number for AA from a mobile is 800 887 766. |

+8 is NOT a call to belgium, belgium has +32 as country dial code!! In fact, +8 doesn't seem to be an international country dial code at all.... so the theory about the uk number being an internationall call might be wrong...

Mobiles don't allow you to use 0800 numbers - RAC same thing - get a message saying to drop leading 0 and call will not be free. Try number from a landline.

As I posted above, +800 (or 00800, as you'd dial it from the UK) is international free call. Effectively, it's a "virtual" international dialling code operated by the international telecoms union, http://www.itu.int/ (note the international domain name too! ...don't think I've ever seen a .int tld before) It should be free from the UK, but - as with many free numbers - some operators might block it. |
