Lost Voice

Does anyone have the same problem as me. When I installed new viewer, official one and also have tried Emerald I lost voice.
I have been using voice for way over a year and had no problems. Haven't changed my mic. When I actaully manage to get into SL and that's a different story...... where the box is for voice is greyed out.
I have tried re-setting voice un-installing and re-installing nothing happens.
If I only get the log up screen and dont log in but go to edit then preferences I get the slider screen and the boxes which show my mic is working. However if I log in and go to preferences all I get is the slider thing and it says wait, I could wait all day and nothing happens.
Also had my sound checked out by professional friend works perfectly.
My other problem is that whenever I try to get to help I cant access it says one of your problems could be that you are not online which I definately am.
Had to resort to phoning for help and get them to file a ticket for me which of course I can't see any progress on as I cant access it. Ages ago when I did manage to file a ticket took about 3 weeks to get any answer.
I think since the update SL is not recognising my mic although its the same one.
Sorry if this is a rant but have had to resort to using google when am online so I can talk to my partner.
Would be grateful for any help.

Hi, no my firewall is not blocking voice its on allowed list have had it checked out. I see someone else has same problem exactly I check the mic on front page offline see the green lights no prob. get online no green light just the slider. But thanks for the suggestion surely someone reading these knows what to do, but I guess if you don't have the problem no-one really cares.

I got the same problem; so strange...I can use Skype & others ok.

Don't know (don't care) about the official LL viewer release, but I'm sure you've also downloaded and installed the optional voice/fps pack when you installed Emerald?

Did you check under Device Settings on the Voice tab? You might want to make sure it's set to your sound card/driver/what have you.

My voice works with everything else , google talk etc. Now I have an even worse problem I can't log in at all.
Three days now and I have no idea why get as far as region handshake and then same old story 'edspite our best intentions etc' then next time you have been disconnected for the region you were in.
Losing the will to live now can anyone help?

I know of setting up voice is kinda problem sometimes - I had to use the right Sound cards in setting, because the default doesn't work for me.

There were some topics on "Reboot your Router" in such connection cases if my memory works fine. Routers seem to disrupt sometimes.

And yes - just because Skype is fin, this doesn't mean SL is fine too. Dit you try SL without any of the other voice using programs?

HI...first of all I have never been able to get voice to work with Emerald for some reason and since it doesn't seem to work well with XP I gave it up.

When I have a problem with voice I go to my control panel, sounds and audio devices, then to the Audio folder. Depending on if you use USB (I do) make sure that is your Default device for the Sound playback & Sound recording options. I always have to go recheck them when I update my Realtec driver. Then go to the Voice folder and make sure you have the same there for Default devices (the USB option). Then at the bottom you see an option for Test hardware...do that check and if everything works ok go back into SL. Under voice options there is a place where you make sure you are using Default Devices. And you will see the green once you select them.

For Vista I am not sure how you do all this but there must be something similar.

As Janelle mentioned, make sure you properly installed the additional voice pack. What you describe sounds like how it behaves if you don't do that.

I'm running emerald on WinXP just fine and voice works perfectly for me.

I didn't bother with the additional voice pack for Emerald because even without the pack ...compared to Snowglobe it was like walking through thick, grey lard gravy. My fps also triple in Snowglobe compared to Emerald and textures rez 50% faster.

I believe the voice pack is required for voice to work, so that would be why it doesn't...

I misunderstood the OP's question I think. I was thinking she had the voice problem with the Official SL viewer and secondly the Emerald viewer. My instructions are for using the official SL viewer and/or Snowglobe. As I stated above... I wouldn't know what to do for the Emerald viewer as I do not use it.
