I've read that I can have up to five alts under my account but I haven't seen a clear how to anywhere. When I log into my account I don't see a create an alt option.

Do I create a new account and link them somehow? I hope you understand my confusion.

Create an alt just like you created your first account.

They aren't really linked - it would be nice, but not the case.

Just creat a new account. Alts aren't linked to you, except to the extent that you supply the same information (payment, etc.) to Linden Lab.

Limits on Alts

The Limits to creating alts are:

Max of 2 per day
Max of 5 per IP address
Max of 5 per email address

Other than that, I don't know of any other limits than your patience in going thru orientation with each one you create.

Eh? I didn't even do that with my *first* account - found Search and was off Help Island within 5 minutes.

As for my alts ... I went shopping as my main for suitable transferrable clothes/hair, found a changing-room landmark, created the alt account and sent the stuff over to it ... and entered the world ready to go. No embarrassing shopping as a noob to endure.

Going off at a tangent like I usually do.....
I have 3 ex-alts, whose accounts I cancelled. In each case the reason was because I wanted to re-create them with better names - even though they hardly ever do anything!

I have both Hearttau and conifer beat. I have an ex-alt account that I cancelled. About six months later it rose from the dead on it's own. It says on the web site:

Account Summary

Your current plan: Cancelled
Your billing rate: USD 0.00 Cancelled

Yet I can still log in just fine with him, and he even gets weekly stipend, even though he *Never* was a premium account. Yet another example of borked databases I guess.

no limit on IP address that I can tell.. lets see I have my main and 5 alts that are never used.. but one came out to RP now. My Wife has a main and 4 or 5 alts (that I know of.

)

Kids had each 2 or 3 for the teen Grid (neither kid plays anymore)

I have helped friends create Avatars using my PC's and IP ..many as a matter of fact.

Now maybe if you try a bunch in one day? and of course My IP has changed in the past 4 years quite a few times ...
