Video Player woes

Hey everyone! I've got a tenant who is trying to set up a video player, and having a hard time getting the thing to work. She bought one, but it wasn't well documented. (She's going to IM the creator and see if he/she can help)

I thought I'd ask here and see what I could learn for this instance and for future reference. I've searched and searched and haven't come upon an answer yet.

Her player just plain didn't work. She rezzed it, clicked and it said deed to the group, so she did that. Nothing. Then I took it, rerezzed and did the same. Nothing. (I also tried before deeding)

So I picked up a couple of free ones off SLX to try, and the first one had some Youtube videos preloaded. I clicked and could get the sound from the videos, but no video. It kept telling me "Not land owner" even though I am. I also tried it on some land I rent and same thing. I deeded, didn't deed, and every possible combo.

Second player, sound only, no video.

Then I saw I had a player from Bright, one of her uniprim packages. I rezzed that, and voila. Video & sound. But I couldn't find any controls to set any other videos...this was the video the first freebie had loaded.

So I know this:

1. My computer settings are set for streaming video
2. The land is obviously set correctly as far as I can tell, and will show video.
3. Audio has never been a problem...I have a couple of radios that work just fine.

Any ideas to get a player working correctly? I'm still wondering if there's a setting I might have missed on the land. Either that, or there's something not right about these players.

Is the land itself group-owned? If it is, then the media controller must be group-owned. If the land is owned by an individual (and only set to a group) then that individual must own the media controller.

In some cases there are media controller prims that are separate from "remote controls" or from a media display screen, so different devices may require a different prim to be deeded, but always something must be owned by the exact entity that owns the land, or else it won't be possible for it to change the streams, etc.

One other twist to mention: not all streaming video uses the same format, so you may have a codec installed on your machine that handles one such stream and not another--and nonetheless be able to hear all the associated audio.

Debugging this is often helped by watching what happens in About Land / Media, refreshing each time a media operation is attempted.

I'm going to look into this in a bit and get back to you. I've got an emergency on SL that I have to deal with. LOL

Check your media texture.
