I am new and just joined, but everytime I get to set up, voice chat or even to just see the avatar at the beginning my system states the Second Life crashes. Is there a patch or a fix for this.

It would be good to know what version of Second Life you're trying to run, although as a new user you probably have the standard version from Linden Lab.
It would be useful to provide some info about your computer.
Make and model of computer Processor make and model and clock speed (or other speed indicator) amount of memory (system memory,l ram) type of video card amount of video ram
Have you updated your video drivers lately? What version are your video drivers?

It is a compaq Presario 1510T, I have had it for a while, I just had more ram added to it last week, there is 17 G free on it for harddrive space, the verison I download was on the main page where you joined. I have a laptop and it runs window xp, it is about four years old, not sure where to go to find the driver info, (couldn't change it if I wanted to) or to find the speed.

Go to your desktop, right-click on it and select Properties.
Click the Settings tab.
Click the Advanced button.
Go to the Adapter tab. It should show the make and model of your graphics adapter. I'm putting bets right now that it will be made by Intel.

hi Golden, welcome to the forums! When you do find out what sort of graphics you have in your Presario, take a look at the below, from the bottom of SL's system requirements: From: someone ** The following cards are NOT compatible with Second Life: ... ATI cards that report as RAGE, RAGE PRO, or RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers I know that at least some of the Compaq 1510's shipped with Radeon IGT 340M chips ... regrettably, if you have one of those, SL simply will not work. .
