Hi Simple question: Everyone who ever owned a website knows about Google bot visiting their site on a regular basis. It shows up as "googlebot" in the list of clients that visited the site. It mimicks a surfer and crawls the web to search and index content. So I am wondering if there are Googlebots on SL, since SL's search is now powered by Google. If so, are they visible as Ruths? Do they have names? Has anyone seen Googlebot in their backyard and maybe even offered them some coffee?

Google has to crawl the internet because all those sites are hosted on servers that Google doesn't own so it can't just index the contents of the sites on disk, it has to pretend to be a regular browser.
LL could crawl the grid as well, pretending to be a regular avie, but it would be very inefficient so they most likely (or hopefully anyway) ask each sim to index itself regularly and update the database directly or on demand.
If anyone else wants to index SL, they would have to "crawl" the grid though, and there are various bots that datamine the grid for various purposes. Search the forum for "sheepbot" for one of the more well-known "crawler bots".
