simple question... sliders down or sliders up? shaders off? I wish I could enjoy the latter, but my computers would never go for it.

Each person needs to decide how much the graphics quality is worth to them. It's worth a lot, to me, so I wouldn't be happy with A. You wouldn't believe how much shadows add to SL.

My lappy won't handle much beyond Terrain Detail and Locla Lights
![]() When I want to see the world the way the builders intended I hop on my PC- still not a screamin deamon but the water looks awesome! _____________________

Out to sightsee or take pictures sliders pretty far to the right, but not everything maxed out:
![]() I turn draw distance down to shop though, or if I am just hanging out on one of my mainland parcels or building. I make further adjustments if I am having a rough time at an event. In that situation I prefer speed to beauty and long views. Haven't tried shadows for an extended period yet though. I fear I would get carried away and melt/fry something...I've done it before. ![]() _____________________

I still use a very old SL version with the Nicholaz overlay. I could care less about all the pretty water.
In fact at this point I could care less about SL. _____________________

On my Mac, unless I am in a really laggy area, it's all sliders maxxed, except maybe particles and glow. In laggy areas, I drop draw distance to about half, but try to keep as much as I can of the rest.
On My Win XP system, which has nowhere near as strong a video card, nor as much processing power, I max what I can, but that card limits me to no reflections, no atmospheric shaders, no basic shaders. Essentially most of "Windlight" does nothing on my PC. I also turn "Post Process Quality" down to zero, because glow simply does not function for that card anyway. Draw distance is maxxed where I can, and lower in laggy areas. _____________________

I love the eye candy, I'm so superficial. I turn the graphics up to 11.

I use a non windlight viewer . I keep the detail sliders up all the way, but keep Bumpmapping, Shiny, and Antioscopic Filtering off except for picture taking. My draw distance is usuall 96-128.

No wonderful bells and whistles for me. I am playing on a subpar computer. No windlight. Terrain details low. I do manage local lights. The good thing is all that will be changing in a couple months. I will finally be getting a new computer. Yay me!

If I go for the full effect, even on this whizbang machine, SL gets painfully slow. I lag and spin enough as it is.

I typically turn everthing to low detail when my activity is indoors or away from water or basically where windlight doesn't matter. When I am in water or on a beach or taking pictures I turn it up to the max.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was an option to save settings? So you can easily click over to your 'hang out at home' setting, or 'busy live music club' setting, or 'out sailing' setting?
Should I be trying other viewers? I'm on a half decent Mac |

Usually Ultra custom with a few of the trivial sliders pushed down, AF on, AA x4. I have no problem scaling back some more if need be.

Depends what I'm doing and how well my PC is doing that day. Normal every day stuff I usually have it pretty low, but I still have pretty water - though no reflections, and have all the details as low as poss. My draw distance usually stays pretty low. Avatar Imposters is alway off, no matter what, that setting just annoys me.
On good days I have everything on Ultra, but thats been fairly infrequent recently. I just changed viewers though, so everything is on Ultra with custom sky and water settings while I beat the heck outta it seeing how much it can handle. Its doing surprisingly well. _____________________

A or B - how do you view your SL? I'm a "B" user - though I turn the "classic" clouds off. ![]() _____________________

Thanks to my recent purchase of a new uber machine - I am maxed out on the sliders and still as smooth as silk

Good idea. I wonder if the Mysti Tool has anything like that? Unfortunately scripts can not interact with your clients settings. _____________________

I WAS the A user.. usually not much more than 96m draw distance, most everything about half slider except AV's. Not many frills at all, but it worked.
Now I'm definately the B user with my new video card. Last night I ran 3 full instances of SL on the *official* 1.23 viewer, not a 3rd party viewer that's optimized. All 3 of them on full ultra - everything as high as it can go plus 8xAF and 4xAA at 256m draw, on a mainland sim and not even my flexi hair got choppy. ![]() _____________________

Everything as high as it goes! (Well, except draw distance, which I put at 256, and AA which is 2x)
