I can't post this question in there cus it doesn't allow replies...
for quite a while now, it has not allowed us to attach pics in that forum, which is annoying to say the least
I am able to sometimes attach pics, if I clean out the attachments under the user CP
but that seems hit and miss at times
so my question is....
If you see a new product listed that has a link to a blog or flicker or some other place to see the pic, do you bother to follow the link, or just back out and check the next new product that catches your interest?
Does having the images in the post help you decide if you wish to venture further and go to the store or xstreet or onrez listing?
(I ask because sometimes I put them in the post it's self, other times I just simply link to them, not sure which helps folks more)

A pic is definitely a plus for me. I don't bother with blogs or anything like that, nor do I use the out of world shopping sites, so a pic is a good way to get me to your store. Since I use IE and am incredibly lazy, I may not bother cutting and pasting a link.

I almost never follow links if there isn't a pic in the announcement. Honestly, I usually don't finish reading the text either and since I don't use the greasemonkey plug-in, links aren't very convenient.
Rha, have you tried using the IMG tags and hosting a pic somewhere else? I use a photobucket account I created in Nim's name. I prefer reading ads with embedded images, so that is what I like to do with my own announcements. I use that and then include links to xstreet and my blog if people want to follow up.

Another thing I like about photobucket is that they include formatted links for all the pics you upload. I can just click on the IMG code format and it copies the whole thing, with the tags, to my clipboard. Then all I have to do is ctrl+v in my post, and I am done.

Gotta have a pic- i actually do have greasemonkey- but i seldom follow links- i will follow links to tuts pretty much all the time- but to get me to look at something else, people must have quoted it a few times.

And I noticed you put your links in url tags instead of img tags, if you put them in img tags and add a ? they will be properly clickable again (except, supposedly, for those who do slippery things with monkeys --which supposedly highlight tags resolve?) Anyways, I also link images from other websites in New Products, having only gotten errors trying to upload here. On the last login "has your SL experience improved comment I said the forums were the best resource for info and need help badly".

if there is no picture I back out and go on to the next one. I want to see the picture and don't want to click links copy paste blah blah
what I can't figure out is why people put in the post title that pics are in there then you go in to look and it just has a link to their blog lol
and yes, I LOVE photobucket, I have had a free account there for like 5 years.

Yes I do want a pic. I don't bother if there isn't one.
I also want the correct name of the place where the item can be bought. I don't want a URL as I prefer not to enter SL from the forum. I log on from a different computer, enter the shop name in Search and tp to see the item for myself inworld.
BUT so many times the store name is missing or incorrectly given and I'm stymied. If that happens and I'm really interested in an item I will sometimes take the creator's name from the post and look up the personal picks of the designer. Even that fails occasionally as not everyone seems to put their own shop in their own picks.

I use the greasy monkey thing, so they are normal clickable links for me never thought to use the img tag trick, thanks

thanks for replying folks, it seems I am not alone (I too tend to back out fast if there are no pics in there, and usually do not follow the links to the blogs or xstreet to see pics) so, that being said, I guess I need to remember this, and put the pics in the post

I will click on links to see pictures/blogs *IF* the item sounds interesting, but would prefer to see the pictures here. An item posted with a SLURL but no picture is a waste of time IMO. A pet peeve of mine is when creators have a ton of picks in their profile and it's unclear which one is their shop! Please, just type "MY SHOP" in the description box for heaven's sake, or pay for a classified.

I'm glad you asked. Its definitely a pet peeve of mine. With all the pic hosting sites out there, there isn't much excuse for not posting one. So, I move on too. I don't have time to check out everyones links so I don't check any. Too bad, because new products used to be one of my favorites. Now I hardly go there anymore.

If there is no pic I won't bother looking at blogs so move on to the next one. There are so many types of clothes I wouldn't wear, at least if I see a pic, I know if its not for me.

With all the great product competition in SL, anything that gives even a slight edge for the customer to want to consider one's product is a must, imo. I'm the same way in not doing some things I used to, Anjo. Since I began my business, most of my time is connected to that. Even when I'm out dancing with my partner, I'm camming around to the stores...checking prim counts on things, looking at different display ideas, etc.

Pictures make a big difference to me, and will make or break my decision to purchase. I also always include a photo with my ads, usually hosted on another site.

I know I will be putting pics in the new product announcements from now on
A few times I just put a link, due to lack of time, and noticed that not much attention was paid to those items.
I really do think a lot of people look in there, and pics in thread healp

If there's no image.....either posted in the thread, or a link to another site (it's not like it takes any great effort to copy/paste a link) I wont even bother. I don't want to have to waste my time in world running to a shop for a new product that 'sounds' cool.....only to find I don't like it. Pictures are necessary..... I suppose the same as they are IRL.....we don't buy products that we don't see, generally...... we either see it in the store.....in a print add....on TV or on the web.....but most purchase decisions are made very quickly on the visual level.
