I'm not sure I understand the question. If it's your land, you can do whatever you want with it. Be for profit or not; it's entirely up to you. That seems way too obvious, though, so I have to assume I missed something in what you were trying to ask. Care to clarify?

i think they are asking about the price break they gove schools and some non profit groups and you have to be fairly big to get that service they don't give it to the group down the block

I'd do up a support ticket and ask them, Shlomo.. Or, if you're premium/conceirge, a live chat would be quicker.

/me did look thru the KB a little on this subject just now and they don't seem to have a very clear answer. Seems to imply that it can be done but I'd ask them directly for details.

Only Linden Lab can answer this question authoritatively. Talk to someone in the concierge section. I am pretty certain that one of the requirements for the non-profit / educational pricing is that you prepay the year's island fees in advance, or perhaps it was only six months...

I am not sure about the price break but i was told by a Linden (don't remeber which) that you have to be legit non-profit , for US residents that means being a recognized by the IRS with a 501(c)(3) status.

There is a precedent.
