Was hoping for some help from the forum denizens here.
We're trying to run an award (with a monetary prize) for machinima and we want to make sure that the news gets out to the artists out there - I have posted a message in the Special Attractions forum here - how else best can I make sure that everyone that is into making machinima finds out about this? Is there an external forum I could post at, for instance? I know there are ones for music-making in SL.
Your help and tips would be appreciated.
Thanks, Kaldi

You could always try the Movies and Machinima Forum, just for kicks

I thought that was a no-no, since I'm not actually one of those people doing it - thought it was just for them. The sticky says to get tips and upload stuff. I'm trying to do this with the least amount of spamming

forums.sluniverse.com slexchange.com has forums Do a search for "second LIfe" machinima at the google blog search http://blogsearch.google.com Then add comments to the posts that seems appropriate. Save a copy of your ad as a text file so you can copy and paste it without having to retype it. Facebook has a Second Life Residents group with thousands of members - join it or find someone that's in it and post announcements there. Check the NCI forum and the Caledon forum - I don't know if they would have an appropriate place to post such a thing but they might. Sign up with Secondblogger - Make some posts about the award. Make a sign about the award, take a snapshot of the sign in SL and send it to snapzilla at pics@slpics.com , making sure to fill in the subject and message appropriately. Put an blurb about the award in your forum signature. Ask your friends to also. Make a T-Shirt to wear in SL with info about the award. Use a scripted Titler to put hovertext over your head with a message about the contest.

Search for Machinima groups inside SL. Search for people who have some mention of Machinima in their profile such as 'Hi, I like to make machinima'. Send them a friendly little IM. Try not to send too many messages as they might think you are spamming. Maybe search for any bloggers of Machinima and them to announce your message.

Use a paid classified ad inworld.
Include statement about your award in your profile. Create an inworld group named for your award and give it a good name and charter for showing up in search.

I would look at the posts in the Machinima forum and drop a notecard (or PM) on some of the more prolific names there (Robbie Dingo etc.), asking them for recommendations as to inworld groups that would be interested in hearing about this. Then I would make a great announcement of the contest as a texture and ask the founders of those groups to send it out to their memberships.
Note that you might also want to form a group of your own of people interested in hearing more about the contest, so that they're easy to contact. Of course, the really kind way to do that would be with a subscribe-o-matic. Perhaps the maker of that would donate one to you for the duration of the contest? If you need a physical place to host either that or a Kiosk of some sort for the contest, I'm sure the Forum Hangout could help with that, let me know. .

The Machinima Actors Guild is another good resource to try. Also, you can go to www.machinima.com, find the game engine of your choice, and locate a forum or sorts.
