If your referring to this, I already have my name down. Now everyone shouldn't do this you know, it's unlikely you'll win, just leave it to me and a few other deserving souls to win, LOL

*snickers* Just deleted my prims from there and re-entered. I think my stall has been there for nearly a year for some reason. I asked a couple of times, but never did get a response as to why they didn't hold another lottery when they said they would.

I'm glad to see the lottery happen again. If I don't win this time, hey, I don't mind! I only entered because it's free to and who in their right mind would turn down free shop space?

Hang on, how is this not against the TOS?

From the Gambling Policy blog post at http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/07/25/wagering-in-second-life-new-policy/:

From: someone

Policy
It is a violation of this policy to wager in games in the Second Life (R) environment operated on Linden Lab servers if such games:
(1) (a) rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner, OR (b) rely on the outcome of real-life organized sporting events,
AND
(2) provide a payout in
(a) Linden Dollars, OR
(b) any real-world currency or thing of value.

The fact that you're not taking payment doesn't matter (in the same way it didn't matter that random money sploders paid for by club owners didn't take money)

Wait. It's against the rules to give money away?

Yeah its against the TOS, so don't encourage LL and don't enter.

If it's based on random chance or the result of a sporting event, it's considered wagering and is indeed banned - even if it doesn't cost anything to enter.

*All winners will be selected through a blind-lottery held by Linden Lab* it's a blind-lottery not a random one, whatever that means, Phil wears a blindfold and they point him at the screen?

Read that again. What do you think a "wager" is? You pay money, Slick.

A free lottery is not against the TOS. And even if it was, they are LL's TOS and they can break 'em if they want to.

It does matter. Wagering by definition requires putting money in. If sploders like that were returned to owners it is just in keeping with Linden Labs personnel being completely clueless about what the wagering policy is.

What's the story with this place? Is it like an abandoned property police auction type thingy or is this a Linden property with a history as I gather? And does anybody shop there?

Yeah I was really displeased with the way they ran that lottery last time, and they said they'd do it again in 3 months or something.. that was like a year ago.

ONCE, long ago, Busy Ben's was a Linden run car mall, on the edge of a linden owned race track. There were at least 4 sims dedicated to the track. Back whe this was built, Crossing sims in a vehicle was safe, and teleporting only landed you at a "telehub".. so vehicles in SL had some actual value.

the Race track was abandonned by Linden Lab a long time ago. Various prims have been returned, deleted, and destroyed. What remains of the track is slipshod and looks very much like a ghost town. (with the track elements from one of the 4 sims simply being GONE). It's value as a "Vehicle Sandbox" long since lost by the inability to actually rez anything except in very rigidly defined areas.

Adjacent, was the car lot. a COVETED place to sell your cars (once upon a time). Since people once came to the sandbox there to play with freebie cars, scoring space to sell a car there was like having the lindens hand you success on a golden platter.

A year later, I can only imagine how much more desolate the place may have become.

I entered the lottery anyways.

I believe these have always been Linden properties.

I know what wagering is. However, the fact that it's not wagering without paying anything doesn't alter the fact that LL consider it to be wagering.

I've heard similar discussions in the Governance meetins which would seemingly point to this sort of lottery to be allowable under current rules due to their not being a wager per se, an because of the nature of the prize I could be wrong, but they'd most likely be the ones to ask. They meet an have office hours tomorrow. :-)

I just was curious about it. I guess there is lot of stuff happening, perhaps so much my poor prim cells can't contain it all....
Thanks for response I was curious about this place.
I wonder also if people make more money in mall ran by Lindens versus John P Public resident own mall.

Don't expect any logical explanations from Linden Lab when it comes to what falls under the wagering policy. When it comes to the wagering policy Linden Lab just does selective enforcement regardless of what the wagering policy covers or doesn't cover. They don't care if a game is gambling under the policy, they just care about what they think will get them in trouble with the UIGEA.

I imagine it might have made a difference when the grid was much smaller. It seems a good location, not far from the Ahern welcome area, with a trolly that takes you right there.

Unfortunately, the trolly seems bugged, and crashes in the Miramare sim, and with so many places to consider shopping in SL, how many would take it?

I put in anyway.

Like the OP said, I have never heard of these places. I was shocked when I read further down that they've been around awhile. I put my name in the pot, of course, who cares if no ones heard of it if the space is free.

How was traffic, raudf?
