A few of the Lindens and whoever worked with them, but unlikely to be (m)any on the forums.

That was way before alpha or beta :p

It says on the video, they removed rain because it would clip on solid buildings, and didn't know how to solve that.
Now if you want rain you can make it with particles. They also had a nice splash water effect.
And that little black bugs, that was great. Nice times of Linden World.

Thanks for posting that, Raorth!

Can you imagine the griefing if buildings could be bombed down now? :eek

The mouse look back then looked smoother. ::Still grumbling about not having a decent first person view in SL::

probably on someone's hard drive somewhere LOL

welcome to all who liked it

I thought it was interesting too

yeah but particle rain just ain't the same as random rain that occurs because the clouds got to heavy

hehe the little worms eating the birds was cute and funny!

Interesting how the problem with 'rain' going through solid buildings continues to be a problem, except now with light.

Wonder if they'll ever crack that problem? Proper weather would be so much fun.

To do it and not have pitch black inside they would have to use raytracing or something similar, which would make the load on the servers and clientside quite a bit heavier I think... it would look pretty, but lag like crazy prolly

So how do other online games manage it?

they arent user made. THink about it.. every object you make is suddenly forcing it to stream new lighting data to you, or your computer to figure it out... Plus it would be expected to realistically handle opaque and clear, which is something else entirely
