Is there a way to put money into an object? I don't mean to pay the owner, but actually have a box wil L$ in it's contents?

well there are credit card systems but they link to your account of course and just record that you have paid the object x amount of lindens. So yeah I guess you can make a piggy bank but in order to do that you would have to pay it lindens

Look, if you pay a 'card' it goes to someone's account, just not yours. No, objects can't hold L by themselves, Okiphia
If you want to hold money out without spending it, my suggestion isn't an SL bank or a piggybank, but to open either an Onrez or SLExchange account and stow the money that way. At least they are reputable![]() _____________________

you can create a piggy bank to pay yourself if you wish just like a tip jar use that script in fact there are tip jars out there just buy one in the shape of a piggy
![]() tip yourself but the money obviously is in your avatar's account. You have to verify it to take money from you etc first so it can debit and then credit you. Removing money from it i'm sure there is a way sorta.. you simply pay yourself it would act like a piggy bank for show purposes but it will all still show in your account interface inworld as the same number just the transaction history would have a bunch of withdrawals and deposits. you can make tiny prims in the shape of a coin that fill up the bank as you put more lindens into it and you can have it rattle if you pick it up and shake it. so make a menu with Put money in the piggy bank take money outa the piggy bank the code will be the same and your simply mimicing it. The money will all just be in your account though and you wont see a change of any number just a bunch of pop ups that you paid yourself money ![]() There isn't really a real way to mimic a piggy bank in the real sense in sl other then paying it to an alt because the coding simply does not exist to do that. _____________________

why not just keep it in your account? is there something wrong with that method?
I wouldn't give my money to any other resident for any reason and expect it back. |

As Wilhelm's sig states:
Nicholas Portocarrero: "The deal was, you loan me some money. I'll pay you interest and do my best to pay you back" This is, unfortunately, how it works. Don't give anyone money that you aren't prepared to lose. _____________________

Don't give anyone money that you aren't prepared to lose. Bet Mr. Ginko got a tidy sum in his RL bank account and ownership to some under-performing websites out of all that. Meanwhile the save for a rainy day folks, got rained on. |

You can transfer your money to an SLExchange account and even cash it out from thier or pay it back into your SL account as you please. SLE also has an SL Exchange Remote Deposite box that once set up in world, you can activate from the SL website to transfer Lindens from your SL account into your SL Exchange account.

Create an alt with the name 'Piggybank [surname]', get the alt to make a piggybank and set it to behave like a tipjar'. Then your alt can look after all your cash.

Never thought about that, must keep that in mind and if the L sales, hey, that's just more money! yeah so if it accidently sells which for me has been like never you can always buy more back in a week or two then what you had so nothing is lost but something is possibly gained. When the lindex was a bottomless pit and went all the way to 0 that's where I "banked" my money. NOw its at whatever the lowest number is there at the time. _____________________

Not quite, Wilhelm. You lose 3.5% of what was sold, in a fee. So if you use this method (which is quite ingenious) , make sure the sale is for a nigh impossible rate. Nothing close, like 265 or 264.

oo no never store it near the top always at the very very very bottom as in the last slot available. I have never had any lindens sell way down there and if they did I dont think I would be worrying about it anytime soon

Another alternative is this:
/15/78/123171/1.html#post1165080 Does require an alt though. So if you can trust your alt, you should be relatively safe. Just remember to log the alt in every once in a while so you don't lose it. ![]() A _____________________

I think having a "bank" that you can easily access defeats the purpose if you really want the money to be saved. Out of sight, out of mind, and logging in should be the disincentive to spend, except when really necessary.

Is there a way to put money into an object? I don't mean to pay the owner, but actually have a box wil L$ in it's contents? I think so, Okiphia. I used to have a tip jar (my employer's actually) that accumulated tips until it was "emptied". But the only jar I have now just pays my account as soon as someone tips it. _____________________

An object only may serve (if scripted accordingly) as a conduit for instantaneous resident-to-resident money transfers. No object is able to hold money in itself. SL isn't designed that way. |

Avatars are the only 'things' in SL which can maintain a balance of L$.
Scripted objects can be made which appear to hold money but in reality they are just tracking numbers, the L$ themselves are in the account of the avatar which owns the object. Whether it's a tip jar, an ATM, or an account with one of the commercial web-based merchant sites (such as SLExchange, OnRez, Apez) your L$ are all actually going into the account of another avatar (such as Exchange Street, Commerce Leader, Apez Mann). As others have suggested, if you absolutely must store your L$ somewhere other than your own account, make an alt and transfer the L$ to the alt account. -Atashi _____________________

I'm still not really sure why anybody would want to do this....
Moving money between alts has been an issue in the past - I think accounts have been suspended because of it. And do NOT give money to a third party, unless it's LL. _____________________
