I've been to a few places on SL where the floors appear to be mirror like.....you can see what's in the room reflected in the floor......can anyone tell me how they get this look to their floors?
Thank You

Pretty simple, make the floor a bit transparent and mirror the prims from above underneath it...

Hope that look of reflection is worth the viewer lag factor of all those extra prims lol.

Lag factor?

 give it a break Ann. You have no idea about the build or the prim-density it may or may not have that could actually create real lag.

Just saying "prims cause lag" is rather elementary, and remarking like you did just there with an assumption on lag is pretty lame.

For all you know "all those extra prims" may equate to 150 out of 1800. Stop poo-pooing peoples ideas based on such lame rationale.

Sometimes a prim can be stretched below the floor surface to help create the effect, so the additional prims needed may not be as many as you think.

I love the way it can look, and did something similar in my ponds to make them reflect the topiaries around the edge.

Some graphics engines create reflections by mapping the surrounding environment to a layer of the surface texture (along with partial transparency), but not the SL viewer (yet):

And can properly handle shadows, but extra features like that come at the cost of requiring a better graphics card, or accepting lower frame rates:
