Add three zeroes and divide by four works for me. Approximately.

Or you could just go to the SL website and click on buy lindens put the amount of lindens in and it will convert to US$

I'm not sure why anyone would go to the trouble of making a desktop program that would have to talk to the SL website to keep up with the exchange rate, when the user can just go to the website him/herself and look.

If you're just dying to save a few clicks, then add the following two links to your browser favorites:

https://secure-web13.secondlife.com/currency/buy.php
https://secure-web13.secondlife.com/currency/sell.php

Just fill in the L$ or US$ field on either page, and it will automagically spit out the converted equivalency.

If one really wanted to make a desktop program t do the same thing, one certainly could, but what would be the point?

If you google this idea you will find it for Apple Mac and the Iphone. If you ask why, the reason is for people who want to be productive and be speedy with their support and services in Secondlife. Time is money and clients like fast response....

Its worth to have one for Windows Vista as a widget, Apple has theirs why not Vista users?

But of course you won't recieve the best rate when buying at the default. Right now a default buy for $20 is $L255/$1 which will get you $L5,100 for $20.30. You can instead offer to buy $L5,360 @ $L268/$1 for $20.30 and it is processed immediately.
