You might try asking in the texturing tips forum. I think you draw them with photoshop/gimp or edit existing pictures in a program like that. You'll need to learn how to handle alpha textures.
You might also want to learn about making scuplts, as many of the newer trees are being built with them. Good Luck. ![]() _____________________

I'm interested in learning how to make plants. Any good tutorials? Matika makes a nice little tutorial for beginners and provides all the textures in the kit, it is very reasonable price (I don't remember) Just look for Matika in search tool. |

What I have now
02-15-2008 23:27
I've been just about 3 months. I find myself going towards plants and flowers.
built a few flower beds and simulated their growth. currently have a hydroponics chamber aboard a Starship. I'm working with the plants I have in my inventory. In due time I too may reach out and attempt to create my own plants and flowers and other items within horticulture. Maybe even an SL Nursery? but then maybe its already there. I would think so. ttyl ![]() |

I hand draw my own flowers and save as png, saving as alpha tga is bit more complex.
You can use photos too and select areas to put them on transparent surfaces. Lowest tech way is to put them on flat transparent cubes 2 in liked up like X with bothi sides textured with flower or plant texture. Sculpties take bit more work if you want to do them right there are free programs like sculptypaint that will help make the shapes in very low tech way but it will only do the shape, there is a second step which required know where things go on objects to texture to make it look like actual plant and that is very, very involved process if you're not already skilled as graphic or 3d artist. _____________________

Take a look at what Lilith Heart does with plants and trees if you want to see something worth aspiring to.

Take a look at what Lilith Heart does with plants and trees if you want to see something worth aspiring to. Yes she makes some really nice things, I drooled all over the beautiful things for months before I created this avatar wish I could make things as nice but even she has said if I recall she buys her textures from TRU if I remember correctly. _____________________

I'm interested in learning how to make plants. Any good tutorials? I learned in a class at TUi. You'll need some basic prim knowledge, and some beter than average texture knowledge. You should learn alpha channels, for which I'd recommend Robin (Sojourner) Wood's tutorial at www.robinwood.com. She's also working on an updated inworld book on the topic. Feel free to take a look at my plant stand in Livingtree, The Serenite clipping gardens, and the Heart Garden Center for examples of plants out there. Mari _____________________

For a refreshingly different take on plants, visit nishi Beach, Lifstaen (46, 39, 227).
These plants tend to be more surrealistic but are marvelous to see, very creative. Be sure to see the garden on the ground as well as the store up in the sky. _____________________

Mari Totally agree on Lilith's stuff... it's breathtaking. Would also like to point out that if anyone wants a herb garden you should check out Mari's plants. Gorgeous. /me makes note to add some more herbs to the garden soon . _____________________
