Virus protectors were made for people like me because I will click anything. I saw the "hurry and get yours" on the splash screen while logging in a little while ago and I clicked it and made a account. Tried to play it forward but all my friends say the Beta is closed and no more accounts can be made. So I am the first kid on my block with avaline. Now to figure out what to do with it. Anyone else get it? http://secondlife.com/avaline/.

We should be able to dial the folks in the Beta test without the access numbers.

At least your not the only person who can't figure out what this incredible new feature from our beloved Lab is supposed to be used for: http://www.massively.com/2009/05/26/what-or-who-is-second-life-s-avaline-for/My best guess is that its more shiny to distract you from the real issues.

From: Lias Leandros So I am the first kid on my block with avaline. Now to figure out what to do with it. Use it to call Mark and ask if you can have a Jabber gateway.

It's a great new service that LL can sell to telemarketers! They can sell your avatar's phone number so you can get phone spam in-world, I guess. Count me out. I can't imagine ANY reason I or any of my friends would ever use this.

They will give us in-world voice communication w/ real world ... but the won't make it where I can send an email to my friends in-world while I can't get in.
Yeah ... thanks LL. We've been begging for email communication in/out of world for years. Then out of the blue, "Oh, here ... make a LD phone call to your friends who use voice."
That's not the same.

From: Lolita Pro Yeah ... thanks LL. We've been begging for email communication in/out of world for years. Email or Jabber or both, yes yes yes yes yes. Hell, my requirements would be fulfilled with an email forwarder or a POP-only account with my avatar name at something.secondlife.com.

I have a feeling after the beta test, they will find it was completely useless and not go forward with it If they do, I will be surprised. (I have yet to use mine, so I will be one point on the beta test as completely useless option) and I am an avid voice user. (what I would like to see is the ability to send text msgs to cell phones, from within SL) for instance, I could txt my hubby or my brother, and being I do not have a cell phone myself, this would be very handy, especially for txting my brother as he is not even in the same country as I am)

Unless they consider it a TOS violation to do so, or unless it is explicitly prohibited in the terms of use for Avaline, they could sell the list of all existing Avaline subscribers, and telemarketers could then call those poor people and spam them with ads. Personally, I see this as a nearly useless service. If you want to have someone call you on the phone, why not *give them your real phone number*? A phone to phone call will get better audio than anything that goes through SL Voice could hope for. And either way, they hear the same voice. The only "advantage" I can see is that the number isn't tied visibly to your RL identity and address, and so they could use it without having a way to trace who you really are. But you can get that just as easily by paying for a prepaid cell phone and listing it under your Avatar's name.

Personally, I think this is the most stupidest thing. I don't even use voice, or skype. I've never even had voice activated. I'm playing a GAME if i wanted to talk to people and be social i'd play in my real life. Why couldnt LL fix things that we REALLY NEEDED. like the lag, and how we can barely TP anywhere.

I don't want it and honestly can't see a need for it. The people I like enough to allow to call me, I will have give them my RL phone number. Then they can call me whether I'm in world or not.
Give me a real IM system that can be used whether I am in world or not.

I think they don't care that we, as individuals, don't want it. This is a business tool and will probably be included in any corporate island deal they get in the near future.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.
