How can one tell the class server on which a sim is hosted? I've looked everywhere and I have yet to figure out how to tell.

Well, if she's wearing falsies, prim eyelashes, bling pumps and chews gum with her mouth open while swing her purse as she lamppost-leans, I'd say your server is low-class.

There was another thread about this awhile back. Good luck finding anything with the Forum Search.
 What I recall is someone saying that there are no more class 3 sims and most all have been upgraded to class 5, or 4 at least. _____________________

Lolly, if you're asking about a mainland region, people can usually tell just by where it is on the grid. The old northern continent is all class 4, last I heard, as is sorta the eastern 1/2 of the old southern continent. The new contintents in the northeast are all class 5.

It's not mainland. Its a private sim.

Only the estate owner knows. That information is not availible in game. The estate owner is told that information by email when they buy the sim.
