Maybe there should be a sub-forum for Resident Answers stickies.

Maybe they should have there own top level domain name, and a separate bank of servers to hold them. Like 5yearsofnotecards.residentanswersstickies .

Maybe they should declare themselves a sovereign state and move themselves out into the ocean to protect their national security.

You've been hanging out in that Chinese place again, haven't you?

I second that SuezanneC Baskerville starts a website which holds edited resident sticky threads.

Or just create sticky stubs (or one sticky stub) which link to the wiki and everyone would be able to contribute or make changes as needed instead of having to post at the end of the thread which few will ever get to.

Right. It takes more work than one might expect, though, to port existing stickies into the wiki, unless one either knows a *lot* about the subject, or just pastes the thread contents as-is. I tried this with https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Qie_Niangao/Optimizing_Parcels_for_Search, and while the formatting makes it a little easier to read, I just didn't feel like I knew enough details about the subject to condense it into a straightforward how-to. And preserving (and sometimes creating) links back into the referenced threads was some extra fiddling.

But this really is the right way to do it, if one knows enough about the subject to do it right (unlike the example). Other than locked, "rules of the road" stickies for the forum itself, the wiki is a lot better place for this content, where contributions can go inside the text where they fit, instead of just being appended.

The wiki concept is fine in theory, but to work in practice for the users of this forum it would need to be a wiki with a WYSIWYG editor skinned to look as much like a vBulletin forum as possible.

People would still make huge posts of useful info in threads in the forums, and other people would still beg the moderator to put them as stickies.

I was just noticing that the stickies fill almost the entire screen, to the point where I have to scroll to see new posts.

To make efficient use of users to generate help info, one should copy the entire relevant contents of the Knowledge Base / Support Center info into a WYSIWYG wiki. (Like I did with a few pages in the Land Answers zoho wiki I started).

Sidebars in the forum display could be used to direct people to useful help info. Links to all the forums on the left, links to wiki pages on the right, something like that.

I'm afraid that the increasing concentration of stickies might cause a warp in the fabric of space time that could lead to putting runs in pantyhose and other dire consequences.

It's good they aren't really sticky, think what your monitor would look like if they were.

With all the cyber sex going on in SL I bet there are more than a few sticky monitors out there already.

Yeah, the stickies have gotten a bit out of hand. I was thinking maybe trim a couple out completely or moved to another sub forum?

The one about Microsoft Silverlight should definitely be in the techical issues sub-forum.

I wish we had a land question sub-forum for resident answers!
