I was thinking about selling my piece of land with everything on it. Reason being is I did extensive landscaping and if I were to pick up the house and objects it just wouldn't look right. Of course if i get a buyer they can do as they please. My question is my home and a few of the other objects are deeded to my group. Can i release these objects from the group without them being returned to me? I have auto return turned off. Just curious as to how this works... thanks.

If it's your group you might be able to sell the group deeded items to yourself for L$0.

I guess, for starters, is the land itself group-deeded? If so... that's probably not how you want to sell it, so you'd want to first have the group sell the land to you for L$0 (with auto-return kept *off*). That's assuming you have sufficient tier to own the land without the benefit of the group tier bonus.
And, assuming that all the items deeded to group will retain their transfer-perm status (I think they had to be transferable for you to have deeded them to the group in the first place), you can then set the objects for sale Original for L$0 and buy them. (You could also set them to be "Share with group" and "Take" them, but that would put them into your Inventory, not leaving them in situ, which is presumably the objective.)
Then, once everything on the parcel and the parcel itself is owned by you, you should be able to turn on auto-return, and set the parcel for sale with the "include objects" checkbox selected.

Yes, but be REALLY, REALLY careful to explicitly check the permissions before buying them. Make no assumptions. It's so easy to end up owning the prims again but without permission to mod or transfer them. I speak from early-second-life experience. Luckily the object in question was just a few prims, with a script that I had in inventory and offline on my PC Group ownership constantly trips people up. I noticed in another thread today, somebody writing "I own x metres of group land". -- Oh no you dont!

I "beleive" but not sure - that if you TAKE the item back into your inventory - it will revert to being owned by you.

From: Novis Dyrssen Errrh... why not? *scratches head* Because you don't get the money instantly. It takes up to 48 hours after the sale. And anyone in the group who has been granted permission to share in proceeds will get their percentage of the sale.

Okay, makes sense. But then the OP should take care to first withdraw her tier contribution to the group before selling the land to herself (himself?). Might get into a higher tier level through that...

Yes land was deeded to the group along with 90% of all other prims on the property. The group only included myself and a close friend at this time so I was not too soncerned about that aspect of it. I ended up selling the land and all of it's objects to myself and that seemed to work. It no longer lists a group and it shows the parcel owner (me)as the owner of all the prims on the property.
