Has LL got a policy regarding residents selling land on eBay? I can see reasons for them to object, but have they ever actually stated an official policy on the matter?

No more so than buying anything else on eBay though.

How so? I have used eBay for many years and only had a problem with one purchase, and that was my own fault due to not reading the listing carefully.

Anshe has sold land on eBay in the past, as has Linden Lab itself once or twice.

Why on earth would anyone buy land on ebay? You're not protected in any way shape or form, it's digital delivery.

Now if LL ever use ebay technology here to allow resident to resident auctions, that would work.

There's nothing to stop you filing a police report if frauded on ebay, if you use paypal you also have all sorts of protections, the buyer has to prove you got the item or they'll lose nearly all paypal disputes.

Simply put.. there is no good reason to buy land on Ebay, I would NEVER trust the sale, You can sell land at any price inworld and its so much safer...

It did sell on Ebay, but the buyer backed out of the deal. I am not sure if Stroker got the final buyer from Ebay again or if he went another way.

Why go to all the trouble of digging up the land and hiring a tipper lorry to deliver it to the customer via Ebay when you can do it with a wave of the right hand in-world?

slexchange also has an auction system, if you are desperately wanting to sell via auction.

I sure swear there was 30000 usd auction prize bit back last year on Ebay forgot what land it was or where but it was on Second Life.
Personally one would think if you could spend that much on land why not buy your own island unless you really like the location and the build. money grows on trees for you.

There is NO protection for buyers on Paypal transactions involving digitally transmitted items because there is no way to prove non-delivery. That has been Paypal policy for a long time, and it would include anything from MP3 downloads and e-books to WoW gold and SL land.

There is also no protection for sellers on Paypal for tangible items delivered in person. These two facts combined, this is why eBay and Paypal have become such a popular place for sellers to defraud buyers with virtual goods, and for buyers to defraud sellers on big items like cars that can't be shipped with a tracking number.

This is just as true as the assertion that Second Life is all about animal sex and pedophelia, and for the same reasons.

As someone who works for PayPal, this is correct. Intangible and virtual goods are not something we deal with as it is impossible to determine receipt. It's just not something we handle. It's definitely a risk. If you use PayPal to sell, always get delivery confirmation. If the item is over $250, get a signature...viewable online.

If you're a buyer, make sure your purchase goes through eBay so you can take advantage of PayPal Buyer Protection, also. Never let a seller talk you into taking the purchase off eBay.

EBay is like any thing else. There are good eggs and bad apples. Most transactions go through without a hitch. If most of the eBayers are scammers, like someone said, then no one would use it. Does fraud happen on eBay? Of course, not because eBay is bad, but because human beings are involved. Don't lump everyone into one group.

Except furries.....you all know what they're like....

:-D

The above smiley proves I'm joking.

This is all very interesting, but we're two pages into the thread and no one has actually answered the question. I'm just going to assume that the answer is no, LL have never stated their policy on it.
