Question about Copybot-Texturebot

today i had a brand new newbie (born yesterday, still in newb clothes) relogging at my store, but in different spots near my party stuffs.

i ejected him without discussion, because i felt he was up to no good.

is that how it's done? the theiving, i mean.

wow..i thought it was just me that got all agitated about this kinda thing ..and we've had the same thing in our store.

Newb, few days old...just stood...right in front of items for agesssss...then another...then the same one..after going to talk to them and getting no reposnse wasnt sure what to do, so we left them in place.

I figure if they are thieving, they wont be the only ones. We cant be at the store 24/7 so let them do it. Whoever buys their stuff wont have the back up we offer, or the updates etc etc...

They could have been ghosted too.
I have had people not respond and they weren't even where I saw them they teleported elsewhere.
I don't know how you can tell about those texturebot things.
If there steal textures via snapshots or from their video cards one would think they only need to have the images load into there video card and not need to be there for hours.
There is a way to be one with whatever you see I don't know how its done but I do know because I know people who are one with their cache that it takes only moments to reproduce any texture or skin they see if they choose too.

Unless he wrote his own, the software named "copybot" is like a partner avatar--you identify as the owner, select an object, and the other avatar saves a copy.

Jeez, guys, what if the person really IS a newbie, and just takes time to process everything? When you were a day old, did you catch every line of chat that came your way? Or did it take a while to figure stuff out ("How do I buy this cool outfit that I see on the wall?" If that poor person really is a newbie, how do you think he/she felt about getting summarily kicked out of a store?

I didnt I left them to it I dont like kicking people ... theres a whole host of reasons why someone might not be attentive etc...

However...im kinda surprised we seem to get these new folk...hanging out in our rather new store.(its not even stocked fully yet) BUT we do have freebies..it might be that, we dont have lucky chairs though...so maybe they just get better at finding freebies these days i dunno...anyhow...

well, this guy wasn't jsut standing there.

he'd log in to a spot, stay for about 5 minutes, then move to another spot and disappear.

a few minutes later, he'd relog where he had just been standing, stay there for a few mintues, then move to a new spot and disappear.

then, suddenly he is back online, stays in one spot for a few mintues, moves over, disappears....

comes back on one more time .. i just ejected him, and he never ever came back.

you said it walked around, therefore its not copybot

copybot doesnt need to walk around it can sit anywhere in a sim and copy everything in it. no need to walk around or be near your store.

What's that statistic concerning the percentage of sessions that end in the SL client crashing? Maybe this poor bloke was paying for all the crashes you didn't experience that day.

Besides, you don't have to move around to use **THE PROGRAM THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED** for textures either... it's completely dependant on draw distances. Best to just sit still, actually.

Everything in SL will be turning up in Open Grid and Central Grid and the others.

According to previous posts on texture copying, you would never know it's being done. The copier only needs to be in the sim to get them, im afraid.

Yeah, especially since they have like...no economy yet.

What does the output of a copybot look like? I was with some freinds the other night and we were getting IM flooded with texture and object names and key IDs all at the same time from the same avatar. A few of us sent an AR for spam or harassment or something. I included "maybe copybot" in my AR description. We got INSTANT attention. (O_O)

Was I right to assume that it was a copybot? (^_^)

3Ring - the previous owner of that parcel may have had camping pad there at some point. And you are 'probably' seeing a camping bot, if anything.

you wont see any output.

the owner of the bot just /im's the bot 1 command

Export UUID Filename.xml

then the item is saved on the copybot runners hard drive.

then to reload the item you just say 'import filename' in an instant message to teh bot and it rezzez a copy.

its so simple even a caveman could do it

More than likely crashing .. Theres no need to keep logging in and out within the same sim to scan it .. most bots can scan at least one whole sim.
