The virtual worlds content/advertising company Millions of Us (www.millionsofus.com) is selling 7 sims ...
/114/ca/237493/1.html

Just curious, does anyone know, are they leaving SL? Or just tiering down after their recent machinima contest?

They are the firm responsible for the CNET launch and Intel sim(s) ... so far as I know, Intel is still in SL, haven't checked CNET.

I don't know what their agenda was or what type of expectations they had. What little I remember about them was mainly some hype for something unknown I figure something to do with LL and nothing else really rezzed in my mind.
Perhaps they became disillusioned? Or maybe they had to cut back because they aren't getting many big money clients right now?

As far as grid space...SL feels like a big place.

As far as the avatar population ... SL feels like a small place.

Check out millionsofus.com.

It's kind of odd.

Companies buy and sell regions all the time. I wouldn't get too worried about seven regions. Seems they are just watching their books carefully.

What stuns me is when various groups hang on to *nonviable* or unnecessary regions. That worries me a lot more. In fact, for any "land based" business models, seeing vast areas of unused or deserted regions is a major, major warning sign.

I don't wish any harm on any other legitimate business on the grid even by accident, so I'm not going to go any deeper into this. But anyone who has a nose for math might be able to make some perhaps surprising predictions for 2008.

Millions of Us, as far as I can tell (which isn't far) looks pretty healthy to me. Selling off regions appropriately is a good sign, not a bad one.

Every time I look at world map on mainland its ocean of yellow land for sale.
Doesn't seem to ever lessen.
This has been going on for months.
Either people are flipping whole lot or no one really buying that much.
Seemed like few times if I put land up for price I bought it for it wouldn't sale but if I did lowest price bots seem to be only one buying.

Now if only they and the sheep would leave entirely we'll stop the leeching.

Real companies were coming into SL because these companies were lying about SL in any number of ways (number of residents, activities of residents, interests of residents... etc) and that's when they weren't guessing because some of these things it's almost impossible to get reliable data on. Nobody will deny that there is a pattern here, these companies come in and setup their island after being sold inflated promises of the "new virtual world" then when they realize the truth, most of the time after months of having a deserted island, they pack up and leave. When one of the RL companies leaves SL I don't mourn the loss of any of these "consulting" companies, I cheer them.

I may be wrong but I believe at least several members of Crazy Zebra (a great new company creating cool open source stuff) are former sheep which proves that good things come when these companies lay people off and hopefully eventually leave for good.

These companies ceased to have a reason to exist the day an SL presence no longer meant your PR release would be picked up by the national media.
