I would have to say that SL can be pretty slow. When you first get in-world it takes a few minutes for everything to rez properly and ever time you teleport you have to wait again. I'm not sure if you are seeing slower than normal though.

You need more powerful equipment to get a better experience in SL.
Graphics cards are very important in SL, and I believe yours if from 2003. A 1 GB cpu is also pretty outdated, and 2 gigs of ram is pretty much the minimum these days.
Yep I think your hardware is the problem.

Yep I think your hardware is the problem. Plus, you never said what your network connection is...I agree it's probably the hardware but I can't get anything done over a WiFi connection...need to be hard wired to get decent performance using Comcast. Jackie.

I know a few folks who run it just fine with a good DSL connection....and even with wireless it can be done.....it's just going to be slow. But.....the graphics card and hardware are biggees here.
SL isn't a 'game'. It's a virtual world venue where you pretty much have to find your own path. There's role play in specific areas....but on thee whole...SL isn't some kind of game with objectives and character play.
The other thing to understand is that unlike other 'games'.....the environemnt in SL is constantly changing as people add new content. So....it's not like say....FEAR or Metal of Honor where your content it restricted to game play effects. In those games....no matter how many times you play......it's always the same views and the same effects. In SL.....it's never the same. So....in effect....the performance load is HUGE.
