I just saw the other post about someone IRL passing, that was popular and loved in the SL community. It struck me particularly hard today because 2 days ago when I logged in world briefly to check IM's and notices.....I got a very unexpected and sad messege. The owner of the sim I've owned land on.....passed away. Her dad actually came in world and contacted her friends to let them know, and to also let the residents know that one of her partners would be taking over her account and land holdings to insure things continue as they have been for all of us.
I was just so incredibly blown away by this guy.....that he took the time to come in world and do that......we later exchanged emails and he sent me links to 2 videos that were played at her wake. It was incredibly hard to watch...I knew this girl as an avatar, and one of the most genuine and fair minded sim owners I could ever hope to have been associated with. She was just a doll, an absolute sweetheart.
Sara Sullivan you will be missed and I only wish I had taken the time to get to know you better. If anyone here knew her....or of her islands (Saraluv, Araluv.......) This post is just to inform you.
I imagine some of you guys have been more deeply affected by SL friends passing on IRL.....and it really just stopped me in my tracks, finding out about Sara....I am such a loner by nature and I don't get too intertwined with SL relationships of any kind. But, I am really deeply affected by this, and after seeing those vids her dad sent, it just brings it all home just how REAL we all are. And, how much we really can and do, impact one anothers lives.

Condolences

I'm still too new at SL for a death here to effect me much (My join date is May 14.), but I've been through several "cyberdeaths" mainly on email lists. You have my sincere condolences and are in my thoughts and prayers.

My mother-in-law was on SL for a very short time, before her death on April 1. She came in so that she could visit with my husband, and it was very cool. We established a memorial garden with a headstone for her and my dad who died May 31, and for our pets who perished when our house burned to the ground April 12. We later found out an inworld friend passed away on June 3, so a plaque was put in place for him as well. The little garden filled a lot faster than we had anticipated when we set it up on April 2.

That can be a bit shocking the first time it happens. The thing is you really don't ever know who you are talking to. I have had that exact thing happen, as well as close friends I have known for months tell me they have a crippling or even terminal illness. People inworld often escape those pressures. Rightly so. Secondlife has had many a story about people who are paralysed in RL and take such joy in things as simple as walking again. Sorry for your loss, it's always sad when people will be missed.

I understand how you feel. Due to the nature of support forums I use, i've logged in a few times to hear close friends have died. It always deeply affects me & you have my sympathy. It's never easy & even harder if you have nobody to turn to, I hope you have someone x

A SL friend of mine passed away in RL several months ago. It was startling and quite sad. I still miss him, and have a picture of him and a little tribute to him on the bulletin board at my cafe, where he was a regular. His avatar just had the nicest face; I still feel both happy and sad when I look at pictures of him.

Yeah, I knew Sara as well, and was quite shocked to hear she had died. I almost became a partner with her in her land business at one point, years ago. She will be missed.

I remember when one of the musicians passed here, I had not really spoken to him, but sure enjoyed his music. I miss the lovely music he made and there isn't another on SL like him.
A note was passed in a group about his passing but then nothing more.

Hi gang.....
I appreciate all the sincere replies. I didn't know Sara well, but what I did know of her I liked very much. She was always very genuine. I gather from the video clips her dad shared with me that she was still quite young. (I'm 40, I don't even think she was out of her 30s, if that) I really don't know what happened and I'm not a close enough friend to have felt it right to ask.....but I am very truly saddened over this.....and I also feel really fortunate to have known her. The islands that she and her partners own are wonderful places and they stand out as one of the few really trustworthy and reputable privately owned areas where folks can buy/rent land. I'm lucky lucky that she and her partners took over my sim from the previous owner. Anyway.....yeah....finding out someone has passed IRL puts things in perspective big time with SL. We go in, do our thing, have our fun......in some cases get caught up in psuedo dramas and relationships......but I think at the end of the day when that computer shuts down it's all too easy to forget that we truly are affecting the lives of others in a very real and signifgent way. I tend to remain a loner and not get too involved......but on the flip side.....other human beings matter very much to me and even the smallest influence is important in the grand scheme of things. Sara was a doll, she made my SL experience all the richer.

I still have Bud on my friends list - a very sweet and gentle man, tho only on intermittently. He had terminal cancer, and the last time I saw him he came on, I asked how he was, "OK I guess" he said. And we chatted, he asked if I'd be on later, I said I would. Then he told me he loved me and he left.
It's funny, he came and went from SL so often. Every time I'd wonder if it was the last time, yet this time I don't wonder at all. I'll never remove him, at least not deliberately (since SL eats my friends list now and then).
We do all touch each other's lives, often, and as time goes by there'll be a lot more people sadly missed. To be sadly missed, one must have been enjoyed and celebrated ...
Hugs to Mille and anyone else who has lost someone dear.

She was the type of person who made SL fun. If it was not for her I owuld have never started building.
She is the one person who I was very close to in SL and she will be missed.
