The New MSI Wind...How does SL run on it?

I'm not sure if anyone has heard about the new MSI Wind. It's smaller Mini PC similar to the Eee PC's. I think that MSI Wind may even be better than the Eee PC, but that is debatable and everyone will have there opinion in that regard. Many people in several countries have already gotten there hands on what are called MSI Wind clones, meaning mini PC's that have the exact same specs and the exact same look as the MSI Wind but have a different name. One of them is called the Advent Netbook. If you have an MSI Wind Clone, then you have an MSI Wind pretty much and it'd be great if you could share how SL plays on it as well. None of these clones will be available in the U.S. due to FCC regulations. While most of the clones have been released in several countries, the MSI Wind has been pushed back to being released around July 7th. If your one of the lucky people who happened to get your hands on a Wind early or have one of the clones, I'd love to hear your experience with playing Second Life on this really cool machine. I am planning on getting one, but would like to make sure Second Life can run on it. I realize it won't run 100% perfect on a machine like this, but it should run ok.

A little more information on the MSI Wind:

1 GB of memory, expandable to 2 GB of memory
80 GB Hard Drive
Runs Windows XP
Intel Atom 1.6 GHZ processor

First reports suggest that the MSI Wind (1.6GHz Atom) will run at speeds comparable to an Eee that is running at the full 900MHz (not underclocked at 650MHz as it is shipped). The Atom is a strictly single-issue CPU (that is, it works on only one instruction at a time), and thus is not as fast for a given clock speed as most of the CPUs we are familiar with (Pentium 3/4/D/M, recent Celerons, Core 2, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, etc., let alone dual or quad-core CPUs). Both use Intel integrated graphics; passable but not great for SL. Where the MSI will come out ahead is battery life, plus it has a larger screen than the original Eee.

We won't know for sure about the specific case of the Second Life viewer until somebody gets the opportunity to try it.

Thanks Shirley. Your right that we will not know until someone tries it out on the MSI Wind, which hasn't been done yet. I would imagine it would run similar to the way SL runs on the Eee PC, but we shall see. I know there is a video on Youtube of someone playing World Of Warcraft on the Wind, and they are running it very well. However, we know SL requires even more than WOW. Let's keep this updated so that we can see if someone who gets the Wind can test out SL on it.

Looks like we already have one answer from Laptopmag.com. Here is what they had to say about Second Life on the Wind:

We wouldn’t recommend the Wind NB for 3D gamers, but this mini-notebook’s graphics performance is certainly better than the competition. It garnered a 3DMark03 score of 606, which is 226 points above the HP 2133 Mini-Note (with Vista). The system even handled the graphics-intensive Second Life—whereas other mini-notebooks haven’t been able to run the program. When playing City of Heroes, we were able to clock a decent 15 frames per second, albeit at the lowest possible settings.

So it looks like Yes, Second Life will run on the Wind. Will it run flawlessly with no hiccups? Doubtful, because even on a powerful PC there will be hiccups in SL, but it's nice to know we can play on it! I know this is enough for me to be sold on the Wind.

What is Windlight? Never heard of that.
