There was once this thing where my friend on SL would start typing and instead of "his" name appearing it was one of my other friends names appearing. it was a nice trick but I don't know how to do it :(

I know it's some kinda script... do you know where I can find cool scripts like that ?

You're still coming across as being far too interested in toys griefers like. *sigh*

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

i'm just guessing here, but i think that its just an object that is renamed to someone else, and regurgitates whatever you say (there'd be a limit on the no. of words i'd imagine).. am i right?

I can't imagine a TOS-compliant use for such a thing.

I use mimics all the time, mostly jes for making otherwise inanimate items talk.

It's fairly simple, and you can usually easily tell that it's a trick (the message comes up in the wrong colour)

As I've mentioned on the other thread, SL isn't a game where you can gain your entire enjoyment from being superior to others. If you are looking to do that, you'll need to choose another game. Sorry.

About a year and a half ago, back when i still worked as a hostess, I used the mimics to make our Sploder speak, as well as various other inanimate objects, to advertise those things that the management wanted the patrons to know about.

Agreed. There is so much other stuff you can do in SL to spend any time looking for such toys.

Just remember- whatever mind-blowing greifing powers you come up with can be countered by the humble plywood box.

Kinda puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Mystitool also has an "object ID" that tells who the owner is of the mimic. Nips that little bit of griefing right in the bud.

I've never used it yet, but I know the omicron comes with a mimic and object ID.

but then, it's still grief for the avie without the Mystitool, no?

Thanks Mari and Stephanie for the heads up on the proper uses :)

I only use it to make other peoples 'prim babies' or 'excite attachments' talk.

You are my hero! I just picture being in a club:

Lance's **** is excited by Jutty's proximity.
Lance's **** proclaims "Warning: I will give you crabs."
Lance's **** adds "and I won't respect you in the morning."

Actually that's precisely what it is to half the population - those who get their enjoyment from being talented builders and scripters. The other half of the population get their enjoyment from praising the superior half. It's a symbiotic relationship, and everyone goes away happy :D

I hardly call that griefing. It's more like if I go into a real life shop and pretend to have a French accent. It's pointless and silly (much like the French), but not griefing.

Most talented builders and scripters aren't doing it because 'if I build or script I'll have superpowers and be better than everyone else". They're doing it because they enjoy doing it and usually praise from others is a bonus. There are a few who have a bad attitude, but that usually either disappears or gets them ignored.

Plus, of course, being artistically talented is a "superpower" from real life. SL can't give it to you if you didn't already have it.

Well I had a friend hostessing in a crowded club. She was the victim of someone using a mimic to offer sexual favors to various club patrons using her name. That is griefing.

This is actually being used a LOT lately as a griefing tool. I'll end up in a sim that's being griefed and see:

"Oryx Tempel shouts "I'm a member of the Patriotic Nigras and all you furry fags can go yiff in Hell!!!!!"

It's really really disturbing.

LOL oh yeah, I keep forgetting. Nah, this is one of those mega-grief things where you get asked for animation permissions about a zillion times and see Ninja Turtles all over the place. Really horrible.
