My Avatar has become a Magnet! o.0

I recently introduced one of my RL friends to Second Life, and when he finally rezzed into the world, I tried to greet him with open arms... and a hug HUD XD. But he never accepted the animation, and now my avatar is frequently gravitating towards anyone else within a meter. It makes RP really frustrating, and crowds now stick to me like velcro ><
I've tried giving another avatar a hug with the same item and having it go through (sort of) but I still walked into the other person, and ended up stuck to her...
Anyone else had this problem? Relog doesn't work... is there a "remove properties" for an avatar? ^^d

Have you tried resetting the scripts in the hugger?

besides Qie's suggestion (rez the hugger in world, select it for editing, then go to (Tools menu, I think) Reset Scripts in Selection)...

...you could also try World/Stop Animating My Avatar, or a Stop Animations gadget.

Jig seems to have a similar problem, although with her it is entirely intentional. Perhaps you should consult her to determine its source. :D

Pep (On the other hand, perhaps you shouldn't; you may never escape each other's clutches. )

PS Or is the "Guesthouse" antidote a universal remedy?)

Try detaching the hugger anim, or the AO, if the hugger is in the AO. I can imagine that RP is indeed frustrating with you running to everyone for a hug. /me laughs.....sorry, is quite a visual.

it's not an animation problem, it's the hugger pushing you towards a target.... poorly designed.... resetting the scripts should work.

Aren't we feeling witty tonight, Mr. "Call me Dylan" Daniels.

My magnetic allure is always a weight upon my shoulders. I cant help it if I am stunning and a "Brain with a Bod". Some of us Pep, aspire to high table and others just get invited. (I havent got a clue what that meant but it sounds like a great ripose)

Wow! I'll try resetting the scripts in the hugger ASAP! Hopefully it works. I was having this problem even with the device detached, so maybe a reset will set it to 0 magnetism XD. BTW, nice to know people are nice and helpful on these boards, and even a few people have this 'magnetism' all themselves ^^ Thanks again everyone!

Well, I tried resetting the scripts, both on and off my avatar... but I'm still gravitating towards people. Is there something I'm missing? Was I supposed to reset the scripts and not wear it again? (I haven't used it, just worn it while resetting the scripts...) If I could bother you nice people again... /^^d

That's... disconcerting. By "detached" you mean just in Inventory, not rezzed in-world or anything? If so, then yeah, something very different is going on, not related to the device at all.

But... other than some completely different attachment, I wouldn't know what to suggest. If you take off all attachments (hair, shoes, HUDs... everything, as with avatar pie-menu / ... / Detach all), do you still get the same weird effect???

W00t! ^^ Taking off everything else did the trick; found out it was a faulty script in my tail attachments. Luckily I kept a backup of everything, so now all I have to do is replace the busted bodypart. I thought all this time it was the hug attachment ^^ You guys really came through! Thanks!

"Detach All" is your friend.

After wiki, that is.

Erm, you wouldn't mind sending me a copy of that "faulty" tail attachment would you?

Pep (Even Svengalis could use a little help every now and again. ;) )

As an aside....and on a related issue to the OP's problem, I've noticed my hugger is acting weird too. He can approach and hug ok, but then my avi gets 'jittery' and sort of jumps up and down and twitches in a most peculiar manner. Would you suggest a script reset here too?

How would you know that - I haven't posted in this thread before now.

I've had that same effect for years and I put it down to SL and the sizes of the avs involved. It's like the system thinks there's a better/closer position, tries to go to it, but can never reaches it.

Nope, you need a different hugger, one with scripts updated since Havoc 4 was introduced, or one of the few that came through the H4 transition unscathed.

I never studied what specifically broke the old huggers; I'd be interested to learn what exactly changed.

they tried to get too close (and there's some new weirdness in the push code)....

old hugger style tried to put one av inside the other, new hugger code isn't so aggressive.
