TP/LM Blues

Am I the only one having MASSIVE tp/lm problems lately? It seems that 1 out of every 10 teleport attempts actually works for me. I've tried relogging, I've cleared my cache, the only thing I can think to do now is reinstall. None of my other friends seem to be having this problem. It's getting irritating because lately I have to log out and then log back in to the sim I want to go to. Why sl?? WHY?!

No such problems here. Have you changed your hair lately, your boots, added some jewelry or something? There are attachments with such high load times that the teleport times out before it can complete. Have you tried removing all attachments, do the teleport problems still persist then?

No problems...initiating the TP takes longer than it used to, but I eventually get through on the first try.

It seems your suggestion was the correct one. I detached EVERYTHING and my tp's just FLEW. Took no time at all. I guess now I just have to figure out what was lagging me so badly and try not to wear that when tp'ing.

Thanks for the help! I remember hearing about this little issue awhile back, but it's never happened to me so it didn't even enter my mind.

Let me give you a few tips if you are struggling to teleport from one place to another.

ISSUE 1 & WORKAROUND

Often this is - as you have said - due to attachments but also prim objects in general that your viewer is rendering.

First turn on the Advanced Menu if you haven't already (Ctrl Alt Shift D) and then turn off the rendering of prims by pressing Ctrl Alt Shift 9. It's a toggle so if you do it again, all the prims will be rendered again (or you can do it via the Advanced Menu). You will find that by doing this your chances of making a successful TP are increased a lot.


ISSUE 2 & WORKAROUND

For some reasons someone cleverer than me will have to explain, tping difficulties can occur between private island to private island but not so much between private islands and mainland. So if you're struggling to go from one private island to the next, do it in two stages. Pick a mainland sim (a Linden ocean sim is ideal) and tp to that first from Private Island 1. Then tp to Private Island 2 from the mainland sim.


ISSUE 3

Sometime SL just sucks and it's hard to teleport. However, there is a final tip I would like to give which almost always works if nothing else does. First log out of SL (dangerous though if logins are disabled!). Then open the SL browser again and type in the Region that you wish to go to in the destination box (you can set it to Last Location/Home also). If you can't see this option, you need to enable it in edit preferences. So for instance if you are struggling to get to the Ahern Welcome Hub, your landmark and all the other tips may not work, but if you log out and then log back in with "Ahern" as your login region it will almost always get you to the right sim, from where you can walk/fly to the right place.
