I am currently in a Marriott suites hotel room in Duluth Ga, I am trying to get online in SL but It hangs... Why I ask is it possible for them to be blocking this program? I can get e mail and see my ebay store with out issues.. No one is here to help with the net, apparently they have a ghost staff...

Now a few weeks ago I was in new orleans at homewood suites and had no such issues.

Most hotel systems are serviced by a third party, which typically has a small instruction card in the room somewhere, along with their tech support number or information. Is there anything like that around there?

You might try playing with the port number in the network settings. But it could be that they don't have full internet access, just a proxy or firewall kind of arrangement that lets through the most common services.

Well, the only thing they have I see is a half piece of paper with basic instructions..
connect your laptop to the internet connection, switch on your laptop, launch your internet browser... which seems odd to me because you gotta switch on the lappy to get the wireless connection.. ..if it were hard wired that would make sense.. er.. and no other stuff is mentioned..

Says to contact front desk, but front desk only knows how to get the wireless connection.. which I know.. so they are no help.. I mean its a great signla and all.. but I can not access SL.... Hell they would not even bring me fresh towels.... "sigh" I just got some notecards I need to get that were sent and I am afraid if I max out on messages I wont get them.. otherwise I would not even try to get on SL...

I thinnk you are right and I do not know enough about ports so, I guess I'll just shut it down and go to bed and try when I return home tomorrow. Thanks guys.. I appreciate the help.

All of the above...... and many hotels that offer wireless are not going to allow you the bandwidthe you'll need for SL to run smoothly. My fiance has his laptop everywhere he travels and more often than not he has trouble just getting on the internet at all. *shrug*
I'd say if you get in to SL at all you're probably lucky. :p

If you travel frequently - I would suggest a wireless card from one of the wireless companies. I use Verizon - and it works very well in hotels. Oftentimes much faster then the hotels connection.
