Sid, are you unclear on how to purchase the parcel, or how to go about finding one that is available??

Sorry to break it to you, but the free 512m plot doesn't exist anymore. You now have to purchase it. What kind of help do you need, specifically?

Sid, the did away with the First Land program. But if you have a Premium account, you can buy a 512 inworld and it will not cost you anything per month after you buy the intitial plot of land.
Search>Land Sales. Make sure the Mainland filter is on before searching. _____________________

unclear on bith accounts do i pay for the 512 land? do i get billed each month afterward? Yes, you pay for it initially, no, there's no recurring fee if you keep it at 512m or less. You do have to be Premium and it applies to mainland only. There's a tab in the Search window for land, and a drop down menu which allows you to limit to mainland. Some people also like to use the map...I believe land for sale shows up in yellow. _____________________

do i pay for the 512 land? Yes, you pay for it using linden dollars that you can aquire through various means. do i get billed each month afterward? You get billed depending on how much land you own. So long as you keep it no higher than 512, you shouldn't incur any additional charges other than your normal premium fees. |

Do a good search, not just with the search engine but with the map, you can find 512 pieces for 6000 or less.

There are two fees associated with buying land:
First, you have to pay a one time fee for the land itself. For a 512 you can expect to pay at least L$4400 at current prices (that's about US$17). This fee is paid to the person or group who owns the land before you purchase it. The second fee is called tier. This is a monthly fee paid directly to Linden Lab. The amount of tier you pay each month varies according to the amount of land you own. As long as you own 512 square meters or less, your tier is zero. If you buy more than 512 you will have to pay at least US$5 per month. Tier is separate from your premium membership fee. You still have to pay a premium fee if you own land regardless of whether or not you pay any tier. These rules apply if you are buying property on the mainland. If you are buying on a private island or an estate there are different rules. I'm not too familiar with estate buying but there are others on the forums who can help you with that if you need it. Good luck! |

To add to Rob's response:
You don't need to be a Premium member to "own" land on a private estate. While there may be an up-front "purchase" fee, plus monthly payments, owning land on a private estate is really renting it from a third party. Private estate living offers the advantage that there is usually some kind of "zoning restrictions" to keep your neighbors' builds from being too awfully ugly, and there are none of those spinning ad towers. The disadvantage is that you are at the mercy of the estate owner...they can kick you out at any time, for any reason (or no reason). For this reason, it's good to research the reputation of the estate owner before buying land on one of their sims. Mainland living is what the previous posts have described. You can rent there, too, usually by the week. But you can also buy land. To do so, you must have a Premium membership. The fact that you get a L$300 weekly stipend from LL helps to offset the cost of this . You also have the ability to own up to 512 m2 of mainland tier-free...you do have to purchase it, but you don't have to pay any monthly charges (except your Premium membership). Mainland can be purchased from private parties, or you can bid on parcels at auction on this website. The advantage of owning mainland is that there are no restrictions, and as long as you follow the Terms of Service and pay your membership charges (and tier, if you own more than 512 m2), you won't be kicked off your land. The disadvantage is that...there are no restrictions. So your neighbors might do something you don't particularly like, and there isn't much you can do about it. _____________________

Pretty new at it myself

But I bought a BIG plot for 10000 and at the corner of my plot is a Tier box and once a month I click and pay it 8000.
Mine is not in mainland but a private estate that has a Coventant that is strictly enforced. This means my neighbours are people who have spent money to make themselves nice homes and enjoy themselves there quietly. Theres no chance of me having a Butt Ugly shop next door or a nightclub. The Sim owner has invested not just money in his Sims but time to keep them running smoothly and the land owners happy. Having him there and his managers regularly popping in assures you that if you have any problems they will be there to help. Also I'm not a Premium Account Holder. If it's how you pay for the land then there might be a sign on the land or just Right Click on the land itself and you should get the option to buy it but pay attention to how quickly the Tier fee has to be paid. In my case it was a realistic upto 24 hours after you've bought the land but I was looking at another place and they wanted the Tier fee paid qithin 15 mins. So make sure you know how the Tier payments are made. Have fun looking. |

I have been living on mainland in the same location for about 1.5 years or so
I love my little spot seen people come and go, trashy then clean I keep my draw distance at 64 and see less of it (although now it is at the nice level hehe) not gonna reply to the part about the premium and land purchase and tier since it has already been covered just wanted to say that mainland is not always a nightmare, just be aware of the places you look at. and remember it can change (sometimes quite often) _____________________

Conceivably there might be something useful at land-answers.wiki.zoho.com .
It's basically the stuff from the knowledgebase but in wiki form. You don't have to log in, it doesn't time out, and you can edit it or add new stuff. _____________________
