I buy a lot of expensive skin in SL but I always have two deep noticeable lines near my nose. I look at other people's faces and their face skin is so smooth. Here is a pic of it. How can I get rid of these lines?? It doesn't do justice for the pretty skin I buy at all.. http://i25.tinypic.com/21omzi8.jpg

Have you tried changing your shape?

That's in your shape settings somewhere... somewhere... Probably in nose, but if not look in chin or mouth. I was just about to start taking screenshots for a new shape freebie I plan to distribute, I'll send a copy to you, and if you get this problem while using that shape - then its something else beyond my imagination (maybe your AO?).

Have you looked at the same skins on other AVs, perhaps using demos? Do you try on demos yourself? Have you ever contacted the merchant who sold you the skin to see if others have the problem?

This is more common than you think and is a big part of matching your skin and shape.
If you can modify the shape, and look at adjusting the nose size and the nose tip angle. You may get some help from some of the other sliders too, but those two will help a lot. Another one to try is to move the mouth up or down a little, but that may mess up your look. It would be a same to change the face since it is so cute like you have it. I hope just a few little tweaks will help.

I sent her the shape I was working on and for her it still showed the problem, so I'm at a loss about what it could be.

its a very common problem, Get a face light see if that fixes the *shadows* you see on either side of your nose. And, no, you don't need some mega-super-watt-10-prim-double-scripted-comes-with-a-hud face light. A simple invisible prim, attached to your nose and positioned in front of your face, with a soft tinted glow to it will fix it. Im me in world, i'll drop you one. ~Brie

If lighting might be the problem- try these settings-
"Open World > Environment Settings > Environment Editor and click on Advanced Sky, then click on “New” and save under a filename you remember. I’ve named my preset WL2. The Atmosphere Tab This is largely to improve the quality of the horizon and has little bearing on the lighting itself, -except- for the Max Altitude, Density/Distance multiplier values. You can tweak the other settings to your satisfaction to get better skies. Blue Horizon: R: 0.12, G: 0.12, B: 0.16, I: 0.16 Haze Horizon: 0.09 Blue Density: R: 0.32, G: 0.59, B: 1.00, I: 1:00 Haze Density: 0.65 Density Multiplier: 0.18 Distance Multiplier: 2.0 Max Altitude: 188 Lighting Tab I’ve set Red and Green values slightly higher to give the light a warmer “sunlit’ tone, but you can make all RGB values equal for a whiter, more neutral light. If you want brighter light you can raise Ambient using the “I” (Intensity) slider. A range of 0.67-0.77 is recommended, combined with Scene Gamma of 1.08-1.22. Note that you may have to lower both Ambient and Scene Gamma if you regularly visit builds with a lot of local lights. Sun/Moon Color: R, G, B and I at 0.086 Sun/Moon Position: 0.000 Ambient: R:0.67, G:0.64, B:0.63, I:0.67 or R: 0.70, G: 0.67, B: 0.66, I: 0.70 (second setting is brighter) East Angle: 0.16 Sun Glow: Focus: 0.10 Size 1.75 Scene Gamma: 1.08-1.15 Star Brightness: 0.00 The Clouds Tab The only difference with the clouds tab from any default preset you might have is the coverage. I’ve set it to low (exactly 0.13). Cloud Coverage: 0.13 As always, you can fine-tune these settings to suit your particular preference Remember there’s a meeting to talk about the client, if you have noticed memory leaks or whatnot please attend! Note - in most current WL settings old facelamps are much too bright; it would be best to have a friend check if yours is. * Sadly nothing can be done about local lights if you go shopping and happen to pop into a build that’s full of them (apart from turning off atmospheric shaders), but a politely worded notecard to the designer or owner may help convince them to update their lighting methods."
These are not mine, they come from a blog i read but all my pix are taken with these settings and they come out pretty even -

Heads up Amaranthim Talon that only fixes user side view.
As in only the one who set there settings to that not other peolpe to view it.
I would suggest to remove everything except shape an skin an see if it exists if it does try a demo shape from a different vendor.
The only way i can see it happening do to the skin is if there is smudges on the skin.

I am fully aware, Mike Breil, that it is only for her benefit- but in view of the fact that she has not had success in fixing the actual cause, there is no reason for her to suffer what to her is a defect -
ETA - Further- read back- she has tried several shapes and several skins already~

The other thing i would suggest then is trying to log into a different computer.
To see if its her video card then an its being rendered correctly.

She may actually have a corrupted avatar mesh file and need LL to fix her alt. Or maybe even just create a new account.

Well if she could test her account on different computer it would answer a lot of questions.
Unless you think the database on her AV is messed up not sure if the database could cause something like that.
Have not looked to much into the back end of second life database.

I strange idea, but remove your hair and see if it goes away. I had a line running from near my eye almost to the ear and it turned out a hair was partially showing through the skin.

Some skins just show up this problem area more than others. Try Pussycat's shape as well as a different skin and see if the crease remains.

/me wonders (given the recent influx of cosmetically enhanced avatars) whether these are facelift scars. Pep (I always blame the system hair/bald cap/brows when something looks wrong about the face)

does it change if you use a facelight? I have hated them (facelights) but I have to say they decrease this situation........

That flaw at the corners of the nose is a tough one to eradicate.
I have it, and I've been tweaking my shape, off and on, for over two years. I've managed to minimize it, and others don't seem to be bothered by it, but it still bugs ME.
I've always assumed that it's just an artifact of the less-than-detailed avatar mesh that we simply have to live with...like the way your butt turns into a pancake when you bend over.
