Hi,
Got a new pc, QX9650 cpu, Radeon 3870x2, 4 gb corsair 1600 mhz ddr3 ram...

... and i get on average about 8fps.

Sometimes drops to 1-2 fps and i can hardly move.

This is even on the lowest settings I can find.

Any ideas whats going on here?

Im running vista ultimate 64-bit, and this pc has no problems pushing 400+ fps in WoW and 16,000 score in 3dmark06, so its not the hardware.

If I remember right and somebody should be able to say for certain, but sl is made for a 32bit os . cant remember if it fully supports the 64bit version of windows or not.

There's no native 64bit SL, but win64 can run 32bit apps. Windows handles the conversion, SL is unaware. And with quad core, that alone shouldn't make any noticable performance hit.

Rebekah:
what kind of hard drive? A cache problem is all I can think of. You really shouldn't be having any problems.

Some other wild stabs in the dark:
video drivers version?
what's the vram per card/gpu?
Anti-Aliasing setting?
how many other programs running in the background?

Well the PC is pretty much brand new.
Just firewall, AV and WoW on it pretty much.
Latest Ati drivers and the HDD's are 2 x 160gig.

Not sure about the other setting... I guess I will just have to tweak around with them a bit...

thanks for advice though

Have to say it, ATI just isn't compatable. I know this because I own one and have nagged for the same answers myself. How can a system like mine suck so badly, because SL isn't cmpatable with ATI graphic cards. simple as that really.

SL + ATI = Low FPS

SL never played well with ATI.

WoW wouldnt be a good performance measure as it's already on your hard drive, not accessed entirely through the internet.

I do that well with a Radeon 9550, a much older card. That's with everything set to the lowest settings. That's on XP, though, with a 32 bit system. I have no problem running SL on my 64 bit laptop, but that's with an nVidia graphic unit.

Try turning off Aero in Vista, by going to the Classic theme, and rebooting.

I'm using a Sapphire Radeon HD2600XT. Flawless performance at maximum graphics settings. I can finally have my draw distance set to maximum.

Just putting that out there.

LOL! I miss that show! It was like the X-Files, only Kolchak was smart enough to take Pics. But then the police always took his camera. :p

XP or Vista or other?

Vista dropped built-in OpenGL support. From ATI's forums it seems they haven't got the drivers quite right yet for 3600 and up. Especially SLI. Rebekah try taking one of the cards out! Or disable SLI mode (not having anything like these I'm not sure what that entails exactly). Just to see if it helps. If so, pray they get better drivers out soon.

You might wanna keep an eyeball on this one:

Good luck. It a shame a top of the line card would be such a detriment.

My non-supported ATI card runs SL fine. *shrug*

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

My 8800 GTS eats up SL just fine! :p

 Should 30-90 FPS be normal for SL???

*just had to brag :D
