Is there such a thing as pristine land?

Hi! I am starting to look for land and have seen quite a few lots. From what I have seen, all the lots have some sort of busnisses near by, and ads piled up to the sky. I found some beach property and near it was garbage flying around, and a survival camp like place with ragged tents and stuff around. At this point I don't care if I am near water or not- I would just like some nice land with some pretty houses around and not a lot of businesses and ads near by. I am dreaming of something that is not available? Would I have to spend loads of money for a lot? Any helpful ideas or tips for me? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

Sounds like you're looking at mainland. Consider renting on an island to get what you're looking for ;)

It exists, it just may not be easy to find...Mainland is not zoned, so businesses and residents do mix. And, even if you do find something pristine, it may not stay that way. On the other hand, no one can kick you off, or tell you what you can or cannot do with your Mainland except LL, which is not the case with estate land. And the tier-free 512m does not apply on estates.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Private Islands defintiely offer some better land options if you are looking for 'pristine'. In fact the island I'm on has some open lots.....and the sim owner is great...wonderful group to be associated with. She has a few islands so you may want to come and check out her available properties....
A while back I had also rented land (same permissions as owning, just not up front purchase cost and can't re-sell it, but it's all just renting server memory anyway) ...from Nerdville Properties and they are a good group to work with as well. Nice residential plots.

Also....if you search 'resiedential' in places...you'll find more than just mainland yucky cluttered plots......but be warned when buying land in SL...it's a really good idea to do some investigating and ask around about the sim owner you're looking to buy from. I've owned on private islands for the past year almost and never had a bad experience.......BUT, I know I've been lucky...I've heard horror stories about private islands going 'under' without warning.

If you want tyo IM me in-world, I can give you some names of folks who are reputable in SL for selling or renting our land.

If you're considering mainland, it's a good idea to stick with the older, more established sims, where the landowners have been around a while and are less likely to pick up and move. Of course anything can change at any time, but if you find an area you like and the neighbors have nice builds and have been there a while, it's safer than buying in a new, empty sim.

If you want zoning, you should try an island estate, but be very careful who you rent from. Search past forum threads for good estate owners.

Edit: Since I prefer the security and occassional chaos of mainland, I will also mention that there are mainland sims owned by individuals that are zoned and rented out. If you don't want to 'buy' a lot upfront, you can try one of these. Some of the island estates also do straight rentals instead of 'selling' the lots. Search past threads for the multiple mainland vs. island debates.

Be prepared that nothing stays the same forever unless you have rented a VERY large plot.

Alternatively, if your prim requirements are modest, you could consider a fake "sim" which usually has about 1800 prims or so as a limit and appears to be an island in the ocean.

I prefer mainland tbh, plus a draw distance of 96m.

If your referring to void sims you have to buy 4 for the price of one normal island, you have to own a normal island first and its 3750 prims now, recently updated.

Yes, it exists, but it's going to cost you quite a bit of L$. I've seen such parcels in the older sims in the mainland. You have to be patient and need to take your time shopping. Remember, new parcels go for sale everyday. Open the map, zoom into the older parts of Atoll or Sansara. Focus on the smaller parcels for sale surrounded by larger parcels not for sale. Good luck to you.

Dekka, where did you get this extra prims from? I rent quarter an open sim and my prims are still at 468.

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/07/announcing-changes-to-the-openspace-product/

How does this affect existing owners of Openspaces?

The main changes will be that your monthly fee will rise very slightly from USD$73.75 each to USD$75. If you purchased your Openspaces at the lower rate of USD$48.75 each your fee will rise to USD$50.00

However your prim limit for each Openspace will double to the new level of 3750.

Prices for educators and non-profit organisations will remain unchanged.

Changes to current Openspace pricing will take place no sooner than March 31st, although it is likely that the increase in prim limits will happen before then. When this happens your Openspace region will be disabled briefly then come back up in a similar way to rolling restarts.

My openspace sims were upgraded yesterday - 3750 prims each now.

Draw distance is how far your avi can see items. A shorter draw distance loads faster and you can't see your neighbors eyesores as easy.

On the mainland, your best bet is in sims at least 3-4 months old. Also, searching by price is not the best method. The best method is to manually look around at different sims.

Not anymore, but you do have to own an island already to take advantage of the new rules.
