Rules for self-cancelling threads?

Bruised (but now better informed) from having my previous thread closed after Godwin's Law was invoked* I am itching to discuss whether this is valid. But I come to the conclusion that it is impossible to discuss correct and incorrect use of Godwin's Law without examples which would inevitably breach its own precepts. In fact I am not even sure whether raising the question itself is automatically a breach. Therefore any attempt to answer this question will lead to its closure.

This interests me. Are there other examples of topics which having been raised, cannot be discussed?

"Can someone tell me how to ensure that this thread is guaranteed to have no responses?" might be one. (I suspect I might succeed with that on this occasion. In the Eurovision tradition that guarantees me Null Points and international fame. We shall see).

Anyway thanks to those doughty posters who informed me. Happy New Year.

Don't sweat it Hal, most people have had/or been the cause of threads getting locked. Pretty much every topic gets some kind of response. Yes we have some crusty smart asses hanging around, but most of the posters here are harmless. A few friendly insults might fly, but you will seldom see any true flaming, not like on other boards anyway.

If you want some real fun, start a thread on "Is a Gorean relationship in Cyberspace cheating?".

have no idea what thread we're talking about, but generally speaking 'godwin's law' has been reduced to a copout tactic anymore.
initially godwin's law meant something different than it seems to mean today.

You might want to read the guidelines. Here is a section

Reposting – If a moderator removes your post, do not repost it elsewhere. Do not repost threads that have been locked or deleted and do not repost content that has been edited or deleted by a moderator. Furthermore, please do not post a "why did my post get removed" post. Send any further discussion regarding post removals to abuse@lindenlab.com.

Hitler?

/me whips off her pants and waves them in salute.

Nina is right, Godwin is now a running sitcom-esque joke here. There is no way to ensure a thread isn't closed, and for the most part threads are closed once they have outlived their usefulness, have veered into the nether regions, and have had the original question answered. Instead of kvetching over it, take it as a badge of honor, you are a bona fide forum regular.

Yeah I was surprised when that thread got locked too.

It had some good potential to carry us to the next Friday thread.

----------------------
Basically where you messed up:

You brought up Furry sex. This always leads to threads that go crazy. Always. It also eventually leads to half of the forums furries to stand up and say they never have cyber-sex. So we were spared that.

You brought up that infamous "when they came for me" story. That poem is basically Godwin on a bun, I cant remember the last time its been brought up that didn't lead to a locked thread. You are lucky people didn't trot out the "how dare you compare something as trivial as yiffing to the holocaust?" eventual comparisons.

And last but not least --

You though Brenda was arguing with you when she hadn't even used any 4 letter words. Tsk Tsk.
