land-answers.wiki.zoho.com

SuezanneC B. has taken the time to put together a wiki page of our own for those seeking land answers or seeking to give them.

This wiki is chock full information about land in the Second Life virtual world: all originated from the Second Life Knowledge Base, 11-10-2007.

The best part is that not only can you go there to get your questions answered, but anyone at present can edit it, update it or add comments.

We will keep this open editing as long as people use the permission responsibly to add, clarify and update.

The Zoho wiki editor is WYSIWYG, easier to use than the one in the secondlife.com editor.

Thanks so much to SuezanneC for taking the initiative and the time to do this and thanks in advance to any land experts who contribute to it.

Great innovation! This will also be very beneficial in directing questions here.

Many thanks, Sue! I'll be there.

Least anyone think I'm trying to pull something sneaky, the text in this wiki at present comes right from the Second Life Knowledge Base. I'm in the process at the moment of putting a statement concerning that at the top of each page. Gee, I sure do wish it had a header and footer function you could apply to a subset of the wiki. But it doesn't!

There's just no faster way to get good information about some aspects of Second Life other than to copy their documentation. The information about land in the Knowledge Base is good... so why copy it somewhere else? The KB has to be logged into to read it, and it times out if it's left unattended. The same information at this Zoho wiki site doesn't have to be logged in to, and it won't time out, so it's more convenient. Another advantage is that it's a wiki, which means that you can edit it. If there's errors or omissions, you can fix them. If you want to add a new page with your own insight or comment on the topic of land in SL, you can. There's a wiki on the secondlife.com site already, why duplicate wikis? Well, lots of folks must not like editing that sort of wiki, I supect; it uses a wiki style editor, which is fine for wiki-ists but not familiar to many folks. The Zoho editor has a WYSIWYG mode, which is very simple to use, powerful enough to get the job done but not so complex it hurts your brain to look at, and it works like wordpad or other simple word processor. The Zoho wiki is free, so no one will have to pay anything for it.

I've got the permissions set so that anyone can read or edit it. I can make it more restrictive if need be but my hope would be to leave it that way - less work.

All I did was post this thread. Suezanne was too modest to toot her own horn about all the work she put into this. I hope all the RA land experts put their expertise to use with updates and additions there. Hopefully, this will save us all a lot of typing in the long run. :)

I want to give big cheers to everyone involved in this. It makes me wish I was planning on buying land. Doesn't matter, this is the type of thing that's overlooked when people say there are no good things in SL. :)

How difficult would it be to get this post and the reference to the wiki page and, of course, to the in-world land group stickied? Save you having to repost constantly for all the new visitors to the forum.

Thing is......... there's already a sticky about land transfers and such at the top. Maybe a reference to the group and the new wiki should be added to that.

Couple of thoughts:

I'm not about to compare the sticky and this new wiki against each other for overlap or contradictions and the like, because I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will work on that. :)

Also, if the text in this new wiki is straight from the KB, I'm not entirely sure what it adds other than making the information available to people who can't find the KB or the sticky at the top for that matter. Would they find it easier to find this wiki?

Having said that......... any and all information about land being widely available to the biggest possible audience can only be a good thing!

I will paste my OP into the sticky above. Good idea. :)

The Lindens should put on their website (main page) a section with...

Noteworthy sites created entirely by residents (something like that)

and have only 5-10 sites (not millions nobody reads)

Would be good PR advertisement for them also.

bumped because people seem to be in a land-buying mood.
