noob land question ;P

So I am currently a small land-renter. I pay such&such price every week.

I am considering purchasing land using my us$.

I guess I don't understand it all very well..
If i purchase land through the site, with my real dollars..
then do I literally own it?
Or must I pay more money later to maintain it?

I'm not a rich person, if I buy land through here using my real dollars, then it is a one-time thing you see.. so I need to know, before I blow my hard-earned money on a virtual plot of land, will I lose it later? or is it mine to keep always? do I only pay once? or do I keep paying a tier somewhere, somehow??

Yeah you keep paying a teir plus a membership fee....look under your account and land use fees availble

Yes, you always have to pay tier.

The process goes something like this;
1. You pay real money... either via Lindens in world or US$ at auction... for land.
2. You are billed every month for "Tier" depending on how much "Peak" land you own a given month.
Say you buy 1024sq M for L$3000 (or about $11.25). Each month you would be billed $5.00 tier.... as a premium account holder your first 512sq M is tier free so you could just buy 512sq M and pay no monthly "Tier". That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Hope this helps.

ok, i read over this info, on the answer page, someone sent me a link earlier, and this is the part I didn't really get, so ok, if I sign up for a premium, (does signing up cost me money? do I pay a fee monthly then even if i don't ever log on again? or is it only if i own land MORE than the initial 512sq?) And let's say i sign up, then i need to get my 512sq, do I have to pay for that? or is it free? and then I read you get $300 a week as a premium member? is this true? or do I pay a monthly fee for this privilage?)

basically.. I want to know if i can:
A. sign up - free preferrably
B. get free land when i sign up (or do i PAY an initial amount, THEN it's free?)
C. never pay them again.

Perhaps you would have more fun throwing money at some other game where you pay them monthly to run around retrieving your corpse, killing, rats and auctioning items for gold.

When i first joined SL, i gave my account to my husband because it really looked too freaking hard - no sort of help manual, etc.. Once i gave it a chance and opened my mind to learn something new, i loved it.

But, like you said, maybe it is too much trouble for you. After all, it is pretty hard to read a paragraph or 2 and then click a few buttons.

Membership in SL is free. Premium membership is not. For premium membership it works out the cheapest if you pay for a year at a time - $72 per annum, currently.

With premium membership you get free tier (upkeep) on ONE 512 size lot.

You must first buy that lot (use search/land sales to find one - make sure it's mainland, not estate, or it will just be a rental. Check 'mainland only' when you search land sales.) Buy it in world, from another resident, by clicking an available lot of your choice and choosing "buy."

Land is fairly cheap right now. Once you buy a 512 lot, IF you have that premium membership, you pay no more for the land. Upkeep is free.

Other than that, no freebies on land. (Unless another person pays it for you.)
