On Sunday I noticed a heavy loss of items from my Inventory - approximately 400 items, most of which were recent purchases and very costly.
I've done the usual things you do, when you discover such a loss
1. Clear Cache 2. Visit Beta Grid 3. Raise a Support Ticket
From reading threads here I understand speed is of the utmost importance, however, I have yet to receive a reply from Support, is that because I am just a Basic Member???
I am wondering if anyone else has suffered such a heavy loss, and did they get their stuff back, or were they reimbursed by Secondlife?
This is really upsetting to me - I've lost around $350 worth of stuff, and if SL know they cannot guarantee the safety of your Inventory - it should me made crystal clear before people purchase items!!!
Also I would like to know if anyone of you guys know of programmes out there that you can safely back up your Inventory Items on. Programmes that are guaranteed to work and not hearsay ones.
Sorry guys, but I am really peed off here!

Sorry guys, but I am really peed off here! May not be the same but forget the support ticket, go straight to live chat and ask for an inventory restart. That got my Huddles back in a couple of minutes, once i'd got through to someone that said "sure I can do that" instead of the first one who insisted it could only be done via a support ticket.

Basic accounts can't use Live Chat.
Did you try manually deleting the cache folder from your hard drive? Clearing doesn't always remove all of the data which means you won't get a full rebuild of the inventory information when your client requeries the asset server. It's at C:\Documents and Setting\<user name>\Application Data\SecondLife for XP...someone else will have to chime in if you use a different OS. Also, the Application Data folder is normally hidden, so you may have to show those before you can find it.

Most of the time you will get your stuff back, but sometimes it's just gone. I lost my AO (packed with animations, too) not long ago and still have not seen it come back.

From: Ann Launay Basic accounts can't use Live Chat. You're right about that, but if the value of the 400 items is more than the cost of a month's worth of premium support, then the OP should go ahead and sign up for the support for a month, then cancel.

To answer one of your questions: I've lost more than 400 items on a few occasions. They all eventually returned.
After clearing your cache, restart in a low-lag sim, such as Cyclops. Open your inventory and search. Long search terms may work better than short ones. When the inventory loading slows, change the search term. Don't do other things at this time, such a changing clothes or uploading items. If you do not get all your stuff back, clear cache again and again.

My lost items were not returned
11-06-2008 16:31
I am a restart av from 2006. I had another av with a premium account, and at the end of 2007, I was putting a Xmas gift in a box when the Sim I lived on crashed. I lost so many items there was no way to count all of them, but the cost was perhaps $18,000L I lost full dance chims, new items just purchased, skins, attachments and so much more.
I did the cache clearing, and the next day submitted a support ticket. I entered into a conversation where basically I listed the bought items, no transfer items, and the Linden told me there was no way for them to know I HAD lost those things. I kept the conversation going, re-submitting the ticket several times. Finally a Linden 'supposedly' checked my inventory and told me that it didn't look as if anything was missing. This with many many empty folders still in my inventory that had held no-transfer items and now had only notecards in them.
I swallowed the loss; some retailers gave me copies of some of the items, and some ignored me. The items NEVER came back, though the Linden at support insisted they would 'IF' they had been lost.
I tried clearing my cache over and over, on low lag sims..on Linden sims...nothing came back.
Not long afterwards, the Lindens announced they had found hundreds of thousands of lost items, but apparently none of them were mine.
I hope you get yours back Dimpz. Having a Premium Account so far has netted me no help for anything. When I asked for information on a specific graphics card in a PC I was thinking of buying, wanting to know if it would work well with SL, the Linden answered simply: *We just do not know*
I love SL, am not a Linden-hater

Ok an update to the current situation. After re-submitting my ticket several times, and supplying them with a copy of my transactions - they finally reply that that my ticket goes in the Unresolved pile, and as a goodwill gesture credit my account with L$2,500 - THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT? EXCEPT I AIN'T LAUGHING!!
Also whats another joke is the support I have received as a premium account holder - I have yet connect with the Live Chat - is that because they know they cannot help therefore do not answer when try to connect.
I was also told by Linden Support that there is no such thing as an Inventory Restart.
So my advice to to others is not to bother purchasing any stuff - because your Inventory can be lost and the Support Team cannot clearly help you retrieve your items, nor do they seem to interested in doing so either.

From: Dimpz Morane I was also told by Linden Support that there is no such thing as an Inventory Restart.
That's interesting, since they seem to have been doing it for these people: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6110

Linden Lab did a mainland restart one Friday and 300 items of mine were deleted from the land. Live Help first said it did not happen. Then said they saw 400 items returned to my inventory. Then said they would not role the sim back to recreate the items because it was mainland. $250 USD deleted by my service provider. They claim they are not responsible, that it is my personal problem and anything I bought using Lindens have no value.
