Deed or not to Deed..?

Ok a newbie question.

I have bought a security system. I have a group owned land and can't get it to work. I deed it to group and still won't work. It scans and sees who is around but won't notify or send them packing when they sneak into my house.

It is the same with my radio. Radio scans but I don't hear anything. The TV works..

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hmmm... It sure sounds like you did the right things here: those are exactly the kinds of items that should work only when deeded to group, on group-owned land. (Usually it's just explaining the difference between "setting to group" and "deeding to group", but if the TV is working, you've got that down already.)

By "radio scans"... does that mean that the Music URL in the Media tab in About Land is successfully changing when you select a different station? If so, then the Radio script is working properly, and you may have to manually press the little arrow button at the bottom of the screen to get the music to play--or the URL may be a dead stream. (If "radio scans" means something else, then not sure what it's doing.)

One thing I might try is to *temporarily* "Share" the scripted objects with group, just long enough to use Tools | Reset Scripts In Selection. This shouldn't be necessary, but I'm kinda grasping at straws. (Be sure to "unshare" again so other group members can't take, return, or delete the items.)

Check the instructions that came with your radio. It may have an access system that is preventing you from using it. Check the contents of the radio for an info card. Same with security.

Are you sure that you deeded them to the right group? Have a look.

Have a look for a config notecard for the security device. It could be that ejecting people isn't turned on.

Yes, first of all, please confirm for us whether it's truly group-owned land. That is a requirement for these things to work properly.

If you go to About > Land and the owner field says ";(group owned)"- I think that's the wording- then you're right. If it still just says one resident's name, then it's just set to group, but still resident-owned.

I only mention this because I have had tenants who THOUGHT they had deeded their land to group, but were wrong because my islands forbid user-to-user transfer, and the land tools do not display an error if an unauthorized resident attempts to deed. So you may think you did it because you didn't get an error message.

If the land IS group owned, check the ownership of the objects as well. They should be listed as group owned in their properties just like the land, or they won't work.

Even if both the land and the objects are truly group-owned, I've seen several cases where it still doesn't work, and it appears to be a defect in the particular object. Some of my tenants have shown me freebie radios and TVs that simply would not work even though they were all deeded properly and the owners/users had the appropriate rights in their groups.

I did all the clicking and such to set it right and did hit radio arrow on.. hehehe But I might have to test a different URL... So confusing... *sighs*

Thank you all for your advice.
Oh I read that stupid thing over and over and did everything it said to the letter. But who knows maybe one million and one will do the trick. I might just not get something written in text :) Thanks again for the advice.

Yep Deeded correctly. My land is set to group and I deeded the item to correct group. I think it is deeded right. Says in edit item it is... Thank you for the reply.

Autumn - (just checking for the obvious here)....

Do you know the difference between 'Associating' an object to a group, and 'Deeding' an object to a group?

A common mistake folks make is associating the object to the group when they think they're deeding.

Here's how to tell: Look at the name of the 'Owner' of your object. If the Owner says you, its not deeded right. If the Owner says your group, then you're in good shape.

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you for the reply and help. It is group owned (the land). The land owner I rent from set it up for us. Which is a pain btw when I want to do something like this :P. Both items are bought and brand names of SL. Security orb was working fine for a while as nongroup owned but when I picked up and set it down again it would not work so thought to try group owned. I might just go buy a new one. *sighs* Maybe moving it broke it.

The radio never worked on this land but worked on a property I own alone. *sighs*
It is one of those picture frame radios and really cool :) I am not in game to get name..

Yes - but ONLY when you have it SET to the right group.

First SET the group, then deed it to the group.

Actually this is quite common with group owned objects.. If you take it back into inventory, or change the owner once it has been deeded, that does break several items, as I found out the hard way.. You might try contacting the creator to see if it is one of those items.
