Inworld with 0 bandwidth - impossible surely ?

After all logins failing at the "Waiting for handshake' (sometimes 'Connecting to region') stage, I finally got in. My avatar is (mostly) there in front of me, though I am underwater and cannot move.

The weird thing is, according to the statistics, I have 40 fps (way way higher than I usually get inworld) but 0 kbps bandwidth.

How can I be inworld with 0 bandwidth? How could I even connect in the first place?

That is easy... your viewer still "thinks" you are connected. I have been busy building away, sometimes for half an hour, before I realize that I am operating in my end of the viewer only and no changes are actually happening on the server. Usually my ping will read 10,000 and bandwidth 0. The connection has been broken but the viewer is still puttering along oblivious. Sucks when you are building and that happens..

I appreciate what you're saying but this isn't quite the same - I logged in to find myself at 0 bandwidth. My question is, how could I login with no bandwidth?

yep done that, hate it
have to redo all that you did

I now take a step every 15 minutes or so, just to confirm I am still in world hehe

as for the logging in 0 bandwidth

you prolly logged in and immediate disconnected from the server, but the client was clueless

I'll agree. What likely happened is that you got in world and was immediately disconnected from the server/sim. Keep in mind the login server is totally separate from the sim-server and can log you in, even if your sim is down ;)

And I hate the discons during building. Drives me nuts, because there isn't some sort of pop-up to warn you. Keep the mini-map up or the Lag meter ;)

Someone actually created a gadget, that attaches as a HUD I believe, that is supposed to alert you when you disconnect. I got one on SLExchange, but then forgot about it and never tried it...

Yup, did that last night. Started building at 9pm, finished at about 11. tried to walk but i couldn't. When I relogged, only half of my work was in front of me :( Someone had unplugged my modem and not told me. So I had carried on blindly.
