Massive inventory loss O_O

It happened so sudden... when I relogged due to being stuck in teleport, 2/3 of my inventory was lost. It says "x items" in the inventory window, meaning it's done loading, but most of the items are gone! The folders are still there, but most of them are empty; the ones with items inside are missing lots of items too! I've deleted cache, relogged twice, and nothing works.
Please tell me this is just a minor bug happening right now... o.o
I'm getting really freaked out x.x

It is just a minor bug happening. Actually, it happens all the time to me. Usually, deleting cache (both network and browser) and relogging will fix it, but it can sometimes take a while -- up to a few days or even a week. Try logging in to a very low lag sim; that may help as well.

In any case, don't panic; it will fix itself, eventually. :)

Thank you so much for the reassurance @@
I'm getting freaked out because this has never happened before, and I got lots of important items there :x
I hope it's just a minor bug too x.x well it seems like a major major major bug lol, to someone who doesn't have a clue of what's going on.
It's kind of scary because just before it happened, a stranger asked to tp me to her place to take some model photos, and I agreed, and the teleport stuck; that's why I relogged. I keep thinking it might have something to do with her O_O.

The last time I lost inventory due to a TP crash it took about 8 days to get my stuff back and it was a little at a time. TP crashes seem to take the longest to recover from for me. Patience is the key in this case.
The only time I permanently lost inventory was when LL rolled back the sim that I had my builds on. Then it was only the objects I had out that were no copy.

No, I know it's scary, but it's a minor bug.

To save time loading, SL stores a copy of your inventory in a cache on your pc -- it's same principle as your web browser caching copies of pages you visit, because the next time you visit them, it's faster for the browser to load them locally than from the website.

The problem with this and SL is that sometimes entries in the cache get corrupted and size of your inventory is misreported to the viewer, so it thinks it's uploaded all there is, when, in fact, it hasn't.

If you manually delete the cache folder from your pc (doing clear cache from the viewer isn't very effective) that forces the viewer to reload your whole inventory from the server. It's a pain because this takes quite some time to reload, but eventually you'll get your inventory back.

The first time this happened to me, I started to panic. Since I run both Windows and Linux on the same machine, I relogged in Linux to see if that got my inventory back, and there it all was. Relogged in Windows, and half of it was missing still. Relogged in Linux, rezzed a few things that Windows didn't think were there, changed into an outfit Windows couldn't see, logged back with Windows and, sure enough, the items were where I'd rezzed them and I was wearing the clothes Windows had lost.

At this point, I stopped worrying, since it was obvious the stuff was still there somewhere and it was just a local problem on one operating system on my machine.

Oh umm, so should I manually delete the cache folder on my computer then? I know sometimes if I reinstall it would reload the entire inventory. It might take an hour or two but it gets the job done. If I delete the cache, the next time I log on would it completely load my inventory after the hour or two? If it's a way to solve the problem immediately please tell me how to delete the cache ^^

You can locate it by going to Edit-Preferences-Network and making a note of the Disk Cache Location shown there. Log out, navigate there as you would to any other folder on your PC and delete it. If, for some reason, you can't delete the folder itself, go inside it and select all its contents and delete those.

You can find the cache by going to the network tab in preferences, copy it with Ctrl-C and then open MyComputer and paste the cache in the addy box with Ctrl-V. Just delete the folder and SL will make a new one on your next log in.

ETA-shut down SL before deleting the folder.

Once you clear/delete your cache and log back on to start refetching you'll also need to make sure that you do *not* tp around until everything is fully fetched.

Additionally the fetching can sometimes stall as well so it's best if you type in a letter in the search box once you notice it starting to slow down (bit of a pain but on the plus side your fetch will happen a lot faster this way too :)). I.e. start out with 'a', then after a few thousand switch to 'b' etc (the idea is to match as many unfetched - "Loading..." - folders since it'll send yet another "give me the contents of this one";).

That's a specific and very nasty bug, wrable .. see

Basically, don't ever, under any circumstances, wear an attachment directly from the ground when you've been editing it. All may seem to be well, but if at a later point it gets knocked off when you attach something else to the same point, you risk losing it permanently.

Time to clean I suppose?
82k is extreme, and I hear people that hit 60k and above starting to complain a lot about their inventory.

It does create lots of lag, however it's because it's so huge that any attempt at cleaning ends up futile. At most I could clean a thousand items at once before getting really bored. That wouldn't make so much difference.

Damn, I missed this one the first time around. Well, since the necroposting on this is only a month old, I'll bore you with my opinion anyway.

I'm above 60k (way above 60k) and have never had an inventory loss issue. Best I can tell it does not cause me much lag -- I can TP around SL as well and as quickly as a friend with only 10K; I often will have an area rezzed to me much quicker than the folks I am with; The only things that I know inventory size really does slow down is opening the Texture window when building and opening a new inventory window and searching inventory will also take a tad longer.

I guess this shows how fickle SL can be. I'm below 10k, yet I've permanently lost whole folders, despite meticulously going through the recovery procedures. Sometimes I wonder whether it's because I run a Mac, or whether in fact the items will miraculously return one day when they're bored with their little holiday!
