I've made a new running animation and would like to observe how my avatar looks using it.
Unfortunately, as soon as the avatar starts running, the camera automatically returns to admiring the avatar's posterior.
How do I override the camera doing that so I can watch my avatar's movements from a distance, please?
Thanks.

Thanks. go to your top tool bar on your screen and click view then click camera controls, you should see a box appear with arrows. the ones you want to use are the arrows on the left.

Use an alt. Fire up a second instance of SL with a second account, and watch the first avatar with the second.
There is no other way to "watch yourself run", without screwing around with debug settings for the default camera positions. Far easier to use an alt.

A quick way to get another angle is to just push the "down" arrow to make your avatar start to run backward, but he / she will quickly turn around and face the camera while running.
Pressing SHIFT and the left or right arrow will get a side view of the running.
At least that's the way my settings work. It's crude but simple.

Hit control-r for "always run".
Cam to a location on the ground a long way away.
Right-click on the ground.
Pick "Go" from the pie menu.
Cam back to your avatar while you're running.

Argent's method is the one I usually use. There are tons more, though. One that hasn't been mentioned yet is simply to plug the custom animation into a sit script in a prim. Then, when you "sit" on the prim, your avatar will perform the custom animation instead of the usual sit animation. It's the same way a posing stand works.
The only (slight) drawback to this method for something like a running animation is that the avatar will run in place. You can overcome that by moving the prim, or by building the forward motion into the animation, if you really want to. Argent's "go here" method is a heck of a lot simpler, though.

You could pick up a Follow Me Cam HUD from Here Island, this will give you various options to watch yourself from above, below, the side, etc. This might work for you.

Thanks everybody! Qie's didn't look quite like what I was after, but I picked up this HUD called "CamShot" with a a free 7-day trial that does exactly what I wanted. https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=1408933Note: This wasn't the only available cam, nor the most powerful, but it did what I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. Make of that what you will...
