Ok, I'm having a dumb moment - I've done a little searching but I can't find where to download the windlight viewer. can someone help me out?

It's the standard viewer now. There's no separate Windlight viewer anymore.

ohh that makes sense. perhaps i am unable to check the "basic shaders" box in preferences because my computer does not meet the performance requirements.

The good news is that you don't have to pay through the nose for a good graphics card that will support Windlight. I got an nVidia GeForce 8600 GT for a fistful of dollars last summer and it works absolutely fine. I don't recommend ATI because I have one on my other PC and SL will crash inside an hour and a half (after bugging me with weird polygons streaking out of objects and avs for half that time). |

Ephraim, see the Video Card Issues thread; your card is exacly what I have now with the latest updates (from last night) that is crashing every few minutes. Jira's beginning a year ago discuss the issues and LL blames it on the manufacturers, although still has those system requirements up as recommended. My computer is a laptop, fairly new, with the driver you mentioned here. After the update last night, I logged onto SL and immediately crashed with the exact same symptoms. I don't know what to try now and am getting really concerned. |
