My home was broken into today and my laptop was stolen. :(
I have no way to contact my friends in SL to let them know that I'm ok. Until I'm able to replace my computer I won't be able to log on to SL. So, friends... if you wonder, I'm fine. I hope things will get resolved and my computer replaced soon.
Thanks.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I do hope you changed your password, just in case?

Yes, Raudf is right, change ALL of your passwords right away, since they can be retrieved from your hard drive.

What a shame! Street/pawn value never compares how much our computers mean to us!
But yes, indeed change all your passwords!

I'm sorry too that you've had this awful experience. I agree with what the others suggested too. Change your User ID's and passwords on everything ASAP. Did you have any personal information like bank accounts, credit cards on your laptop too? Was there a email address list on it?
I hope you've gotten the locks changed on your home/apt. If the burglar broke a window to get in, get some of that window security laminate put on right away. Do you have friends who could stay with you until you get everything changed and secured? I have those really big jingle bells sitting on my windows. Anyone tries to slide my window open and that heavy bell will make a racket falling off.

See if your local police dept will come out and do a security survey. My hometown PD will do that for free and they make recommendations of what you can do to improve your home security.

Sorry to hear that.

You can send messages into SL from any web browser using

http://www.zonkster.com

It sends the recipient text from a scripted prim, so it appears in green type. You might want to send the message more then once to make sure they do not miss it. And give them an email address where they can contact you.

Shes a victim not victimised lol. Victimised would mean she has been targeted for a specific reason. She has just unfortunately been the victim of an opportunist and a thief.

I wasn't being horrible it was a legit question, all she said was her computer had been stolen.

did you know that the statistics are high that the burglars will return to a place they've hit for a second go 'round?

It's a legitimate question and I'm not the least offended. I have a work computer. It doesn't belong to me, though, so I can't D/L SL. I can, however, use it for posing here. :)

Thanks to everyone for the advice. The first thing I did was change all my passwords. Unfortunately, my computer contained some heartbreakingly irreplacable photos that I'd not had a chance to back up. Live and learn. :( There's nothing I can do immediately, however, to get back my sense of security.

I really appreciate all the kind words and sympathy and advice. It's rather theraputic after a very hard day talking to insurance adjusters and repair men. :) You're all very sweet.

Am so sorry this has happened to you, Lolita. A few years back, my front door was kicked in at 10am on a weekday... My neighbor heard a ruckus, but didnt really think too much of my dog barking, he always barked at the postman. I was at work, my daughter who was a freshman in hs at the time, came home and entered house thru the back door. She had cookies & milk at kitchen table, then took the dog out for a walk... She was home for a good 45 mins before she entered the living room and saw front door ajar and the living room ransacked... She called me at work, I was so frightened for her safety. I felt so violated. It's not a good feeling when you dont feel same in your own home... am a single Mom so had to put a good face on situation for my daughter's sack. To be honest I was a bit scared whenever I was home alone for a very very long time... I sympathize with you Lolita, good luck!
