this is a on going issue with membership to groups, this liability is set as default and it pays for things like 'show in search' transactions, some new players and even some old players don't realise this is default and it may only be because of this that you have been charged. the best option to deal with this, is to copy the transaction details and send them on a note card to the group owner pointing out what has happened asking for 1. a refund and 2. to change the liabilities in the group. remember to be nice.
this has happened to me often and only once did a group refuse to pay it back, they immediately kicked me from the group, which just saved me the time leaving.

Here's the Knowledge Base on group liability: From: someone What is a group liability? - Video Tutorial
If a group member has the Pay group liabilities and receive group dividends ability associated with their role, that member automatically pays an equal share of group costs with the other group members with the same ability. In turn, that same group member automatically receives an equal share of L$ that get paid to the group. If nobody in the group has this ability, then group liabilities are paid by and dividends are paid to the group's owner (the group's owner always has all abilities).
For example, using the Options tab of the About Land window, group-owned land can be set to display in the Places tab of the Search window, which incurs a L$30/week charge per parcel. This charge is divided among all group members who have the ability Pay group liabilities and receive group dividends (in the Accounting category of group abilities) enabled in at least one of their roles.
Periodic assessment of this liability is the reason some Residents may occasionally log in to discover negative L$ balances on their inworld accounts. It would appear the group is spending money or incurring a cost of some kind. If no other group members are set to share it, the group owner gets debited for the entire liability.

From: Kristopher Tenk Phheeww only I was getting charged, ok as the owner of the group how do i disable this for me? as the check box is uncheckable? You can't change that...SOMEbody has to be liable for group charges. However...the most usual group liability is a charge of L$30 per week per group-owned parcel of land to "Show in Search". You can disable this in "About Land". I'm not sure, but there may be a Search charge for the group itself, as well.

I've had a couple of those - only charged $1L each - and both from new dance venues. The first time I was like Whhhaaaaaattt???? (Not knowing what a group liability was.) Found out and did what Dekka suggested (the new club owner didn't know about it either).

As lindal said From: someone the most usual group liability is a charge of L$30 per week per group-owned parcel of land to "Show in Search". That is for the minimum charge. So chances are if you received a charge of only L$4 then several (7) other avatars must have received the rest of the charge.

If it's disabled for all members, the group owner is held liable for the charges - and is also the only one who receives benefits. I'm almost dead positive this is how it works.
