i.e. look very ghost-like (somewhat like wearing tattered clothes) and the head shows up at the waist point. I've googled and perused support pages and I'm clueless. All background images and objects look OK - anybody have a clue? I've near given up on this.

It sounds like the new "Ruth" that appeared last week or so. Instead of the loading like you are used to, now the untextured avatars show up like glowing orbs of light. If you ask me it's to stop the irrational fear that somebody, gawd forbid, happens to relog nekkid into a PG sim.

Thanks Not sure if same thing- but search here in this forum for references to Scarecrow and crucification- there was something about that that sounds similar to your issue a few months back.

I don't think the OP is talking about clouds.
Try searching the forums for "tattered" or "scarecrow" and see if what comes up is the problem you've had. The solution was to uncheck the "hardware skinning" option in the custom graphic preferences.
