I posted this in the techincal forum but I though I'd try it here too..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, I've been using SL on my main PC but I want to try it on my laptop, a couple of questions I have:

Do I have an ok graphics card to run it properly? I've looked at the minimum requirements and it all seems in a different langauage to me! So my graphis card, I think, is: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP

Am I ok to use a wireless connection? I never lose connection and my signal is excellent, but I noticed you need a cable/DSL to use SL..

Ok I think that's it, thanks in advance!

I have a state-of-the-art laptop, imo LOL and SL worked better on it via wireless than on my powerful desktop connected via dsl. So the short answer is yes, but obviously it depends on the specs and how strong the connection is.

I can run SL on my laptop with a good wifi connection - it is never quite so stable as with a cable connection, but it is do-able.

I manage with a very low grade graphics card by adjusting all the variables I can in SL down - i.e., minimum draw distance and don't render anything I don't need to - no alpha, trees, particles, clouds, grass and no animated textures.

Been using a laptop w/wireless for my whole time in SL. I seem to have less problems than most people.

Same here. SL runs much better on my wireless laptop than the wired PC does via cable. Then again, the laptop does have better specs than the PC....

My graphic card on the laptop is not the greatest though(according to SL),so can't answer any graphic related questions.

I concur that a decent WiFi connection is fine, *but* that graphics chipset is unsupported. Way back when, some folks got SL to run on it (very slowly), but I have no idea if it still works. Of course, it's a free download to try it and see if it can be coaxed into working--I bet there are others who'd like to know that, too.

Oh... I assumed "wireless" means WiFi. If instead it's a pure wireless connection, over whatever your wireless provider offers for data transmissions, then it's a lot less predictable when, where, and how it will work.

Thanks everyone - I guess I'll just give it a go and see what happens.

Same here, except for when I moved and got a different wireless provider.

Never ever had a problem with my wireless laptop on SL.
I have the nvidia 6251 and it works very well.

I run SL on a 4 year old laptop with an unsupported graphics card (NVidia Quadro) over wireless. I do get one or two drop-outs due to my wireless being strange, but SL is just fine.

I think the best plan is to try it....

Me too! SL runs as good as SL is running at the moment on my wireless laptop.

I tried it and it didn't work. Well, I logged in but it was all blurry and everything was taking ages to load.

I expected it really, I think my laptop is pretty rubbish haha.

Thanks to everyone who responded :)
