I am going to an event tonight where I will not be allowed any attachments - so no prim hair of course.
I seem to remember seeing on this forum someone mentioning a place that sold textures that could be applied to the regular hair to make it look half decent...Can I do this with any hair texture? Or is it a special texture I need. Anyone remember where this was? Search is not coming up with any useful results.

You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.
Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Yep. Robin makes some of the nicest no-prim hair I have seen in SL. Hers is my standard for my low-lag form.

Yes, that is impressive. I had no idea you could do this. Are you then allowed to play around with the sliders to get different styles?
This no prim event would also limit what kind of clothes you can wear, would it not? Will you have to put up with the default shoes that turn your feet into upside down "V" shapes?
I hope it's going to be a really good event for you.

That actually looks better than many prim hairstyles.

Are you sure they meant that literally? I've seen places that ask people to remove all scripted attachments - particularly genitals - because of the load imposed by scripts. And I can even imagine asking people to remove unnecessary clothing attachments, such as jewelry, hoods, other flexi-clothing, etc.
But to prohibit prim hair and shoes seems overkill. Yes, I know that hair can have over a hundred prims. It's also one of an avatars most defining characteristics. While taken collectively, hair could have a noticeable impact on performance. But by prohibiting it, they're exchanging one visual aspect, the frame rate, for another, the visual quality of the graphics, as well as affecting the sense of character identity for some of the participants.
I suppose if this were strictly a business event, where the participants are employees, and they're not expected to be using SL as a roleplay or social environment, then it would make more sense.

I'm so happy I saw this thread -- just went to Robin's shop and got me some good-looking primless hair! TY to the OP for starting the thread and Ann for mentioning Robin's place. Tee hee, my friends will think I've lost it... I don't wear primmy shoes, and now I don't need primmy hair either. Wee! -Atashi

I don't usually go to many events with 40+ residents, but if I did, I wouldn't mind wearing only the basic primless look. I'm actually starting to like the bald look - even thinking about getting a skin with sleek short hair painted on. I'm not too crazy about system hair, although the texture shown in the pics is very nice. I would just not look like _me_ wearing it.

The hair is mod/copy so you can adjust the sliders and tweak the style and tint and all that fun stuff. I took the short middle parted grey hair and made it into this: Love it! -Atashi

Yes you can mod the hair, I already got rid of the fringe that came with it with the sliders Yes no prims at all are allowed so that does include prim shoes, AOs, etc. this is the U2 in SL concert so the band has to be able to move/perform etc. and there is a lot of avatars present

Fwiw, I go no-prim and no-AO to all performances where I just sit to watch, including SL Shakespeare and SL Ballet. Even tho I have a PC with an 8800GT so really don't need to for my own sake, it may mean that one more avatar will be able to get into the sim, or that performers will move just a few pixels smoother.
Recently, more designers have been coming out with neat system skirts, and I think that is great!
A "low-lag" avatar shop is a great idea for a store. I think newer avatars just DON'T go to the freebie warehous, which is where I got my small but much prized collection of system shoes. .
